YZ 85 shift shaft?

The person who had the bike before me welded the shift shaft to the shifter, and now we need to remove the shaft. Anyone know how to remove the shifter from the shaft, because it’s welded on pretty good?

start grinding...you should be able to grind the weld down flat to the edge of the shifter and then pry the shifter open and off of the shaft.

Thin cut off wheel on an air rotary tool. Just cut the shaft behind the shifter. They are not much good anyhow at this point.

Those things always came loose so a lot of guys would tack weld them. I never did on ours but was tempted. Just cut it off and replace. Easy fix it pushes through the cases from the clutch side
