So lame. Shouldn’t count for championship points.

Wow, I can't believe they are moving forward with the event. That would be like waiting until 6pm and then saying "we actually have to do this supercross race on the BMX track we set up in the pits"

Where is the FIM? Shouldn't count towards championship. This will hurt someone like Jarvis who does not do well at endurocross events. Possibly favors Taddy, Jonny and Billy depending on layout.

Yeah, I text a buddy last night “anybody that happens to have their 350 in the van is gonna win”

Endurocross is not hard enduro, it’s not even close really. Shouldn’t count.

I was taking to Jarvis today, they are coming up with an alternative plan to run a loop on the military base so it’s not a write off yet. I know a lot of people that didn’t go this year because they were afraid this might happen.

The organizers have been working on this event since 2919. To wait till everyone is there and basically about to line up and alter it in the 11th hour is just terrible. I get safety first but should not have waited till day of..

Don't forget Billy and Manni, both former world champ... The FIM is trying to avoid a major fiasco, even if it is a bit late. Just had Jordan Curvalle (Sherco's manager) on the phone and he's pretty pissed. Organisers are currently trying to make the track longer and more "extremish" by bringing more rocks and so on but it will still be an EX track. Lame.

Best case is it turns into something like The Tough One in the UK. That's not endurocross at all and Is held in a quarry. Multiple laps but can still be called hard enduro.

That's gonna be tough turning this place into an extreme loop... Not the same landscape than Tough One, which is indeed a cool race. And rumors say the track will be around 3 minutes maximum.

They should run it but shouldn't count towards the HEWC. This is NOT what they prepped for.

Agreed. That was Jordan Curvalle's position also, but the FIM denied it.

Can't wait to hear Damo's take on it. (Graham's mechanic).

He’s pretty pissed, was talking about how people are out walking around, eating at Cafes etc. Sucks for Graham, EX is not exactly his bag. We will wait and see what they can come up with on the base for a track.

Extremely unfortunate, but reading the press release reveals there was a local outbreak in one of the areas the race runs through. Suppose in the name of safety the local officials felt this had to be done, as sports are not the be-all-end-all of life. Feel bad for the riders and teams, but rapidly changing conditions are the name of the game. Bring on the revised format I say!

As far as calls to the FIM, what are they supposed to do? The whole deal sucks, but I can’t see how any blame could be pointed anywhere except the Portugese government. And even then, they’re making a move they believe will help protect people.

Protect people from guys riding by on motorcycles with helmets on in the open air?

If covid has killed anything it's f%$#ing common sense.

So lame all the work and anticipation that went up to this after missing out on WESS last year for the government to pull a shit move like this hours before the event started.

Consider the optics of hosting a motorcycle race directly outside the homes of people experiencing COVID. Blocking the streets off from people who may need to be transported to hospitals, ect. It’s simply the most cautionary choice and, when dealing with a deadly virus, probably the correct one.

I'm just tired of the opposite optics of so much shit being shut down and lives ruined over a disease that doesn't kill over 99% of the people who get it.

That said, I'm vaccinated and have definitely cut down on social activities, going out in public less etc. etc. I'm not a full blown "fake news" Covid non-believer, I just think it's time to use some f'n common sense and let those who want to get back to real life do so.

Anyway, I really DON'T want to turn this into another Covid thread, I won't post again about it Tongue

The situation is bad, luckily the promoters are trying to make lemonade out of lemons. All the teams have already traveled and arrived on site, it makes sense to do something rather than nothing. I understand it's not ideal conditions, sometimes racing dirt bikes isn't. Whatever replacement they come up with will no doubt be a sore disappointment for fans and racers and the Inaugural event of the new series. Everyone will end up on the same track, and some tracks favor some riders more than others. A protest on whether the points should count can be filed later, although in a limited series you have little to be throwing out, not knowing what happens next.

Either way, Go Jonny Walker on the Beta!

So, it's going to be an Endurocross course / race only?

If they are reduced to that, what might be a good idea, if they could, is to build an outdoor version of an Indoor Trials event (but, just a tad less full on) to have as a companion event to the Endurocross race. That may help the more technical riders get into the Overall event results.

Difficult times. I'm not inclined to slag any 'side' of these things.

Damo had to look up the instructions to add a hole shot device to Graham’s bike😂 First time they’ve ever run one on the bike.

Jonny must be feeling it on that Beta, because Billy is nearly untouchable on a jumpy endurocross course.

Man this just sucks. I know everyone is trying to make the best of it but Graham barely made the field for crying out loud!

If this thing counts he’s gonna likely leave in a huge points deficit.

I’m a Manni fan but ol Grimbo deserved a fair shake at the first true World Championship for Hard Enduro.
