IMO shits lame that they couldnt manage to get a stadium for xgames. Practically everything is re-opening and having all the events at private facilities at separate times is NOT going to be the same. xgames at COTA was a blast, not sure why that wasnt an option again.

I used to always look forward to Xgames growing up. Its declined a lot over the last 5-10 years. In fact, I barely even know when its happening and my brother is usually in it.

Their last year of the contract with Minneapolis was last year and never happened due to covid. I can only assume that they've been searching for contracts with a new venue, but didn't pull the trigger yet on a long term venue due to covid or maybe even lack of finances. They haven't exactly had the ratings they used to have. So maybe this is an off year since it's more of a niche event until the world is more normal?

Unfortunately we're so saturated with content and material from Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube that when the x games come, people don't have the attention span anymore to stay tuned in to a 3 hour broadcast to see something they see on YouTube on demand. The broadcast doesn't exactly pump you up either. Gone are the days of mainstream athletes like Danny way, Tony hawk, Travis pastrana, Dave mirra, mat Hoffman. Everyone knew those dudes even if you didn't follow action sports. It falls on both ends. Espn doesn't give a rip about advertising or wanting to make you tune in and the athletes don't market themselves as much as guys like mentioned above did. It almost feels like x games is ESPN's red headed step child at this point. They used to have 24/7 channels dedicated to all things x games when that weekend came. I haven't seen one advertisement for it on espn this year and it's broadcast there this weekend.

They are doing their best to change the moto events to make them more innovative. Half pipe, maybe a street course like Axel has at his house. They just need to do a better job marketing the events, I had no idea they were this week

Just watched BMX dirt live. Cool to see how BMX has evolved. Dreamland is sick but really? X-Games in somebody's backyard???

I miss the good ol' days of X-Games.

They should bring back supermoto. I’d rather watch that than freestyle which like the other guy said is a bit too dangerous now.

I used to watch xgames like it was the olympics


From what I understand they weren’t sure how much of it was going to happen b/c of title sponsorship money. Don’t think there was much to go around and may be a reason why some events are in people’s yards

Just watched the bmx dirt best trick. Format is a 20 minute jam session. They show a rider profile on Ryan Williams about 5 minutes in as he's about to roll in that last a good 3 minutes. Come back and realize you missed his first run completely.

Then during the bmx park best trick the cameras are watching something irrelevant and completely missed one of the dudes landing a huge trick.

As a moto fan, I felt right at home with the production crew misses and optimal timing for rider profile segments.

I used to follow religiously X games when I was growing up. X games 2006 was the peak of this event, change my mind. Now it just stalled, kind of sad.

It really sucks because the athletes are doing shit that would never of been thought possible 10 years ago. But the broadcast itself is absolute trash. Go back and watch the broadcast from the LA coliseum days. The best years were from 2000-2010. It kept you hooked. It had character. It kept you on the edge of your seat. Commentary was pumped up. You knew what was actually going on. The broadcasts today were plain, dull, easy to just get distracted and do something else around the house. Random breaks. No flow. Commentary sounded like they didn't want to be there. Basically a fly by night, high school film crew just winging it for a senior project. And then during the best trick you get a blue screen. Come back for a few minutes and right before the winner is announced they go dark again. If they put in any effort at all, it would've been better.

It really bugs me because x games was my childhood and used to be something special. Now it just seems like the people running the show don't give a shit.

You watch this and compare it to today, it's easy to see the difference in quality. I mean they used to have a one off SX race with Carmichael, reed, DV, and other top guys at the time.

The concept is outmoded. Back when X-games was big, the only way to get live content was to watch racing or X-games. Now you have YouTube and social media accounts to get an almost endless stream of riding clips and videos. X games just seems contrived now when you have continuous access to all these FMX and Freeride guys posting videos. Nostalgia is nice, but I like the way we have it now a lot better.
