It seem to me that the mold remains would hinder traction in all areas of the track, especially the 1st turn.

Wrong answer kk. I know the correct one and I bet some mechanics do it. Perhaps works rubber can be provided with all those squirmy little suckers gone?

They actually provide a bungie effect enabling a 10% faster start. Science!

Ribbed for your pleasure. Fresh rubber should be cherished, not touched.
I would also suspect that after one super aggressive start, that work will be done for you.

I do have a thing called a knobby knife which is cool for a fresh edge without flipping a tire.

Gold rims are sweet, have a set on the old Katoom for old tires. New tires go on another set.

I leave them on to distract that guy that always has to pull at them . Without them there ,who knows what he would get into.

Yes!! That’s how Tomac was able to make up so much time! He felt better having the nubs clipped off. It’s these type of setting changes that make you a champion or barely able to crack top 20. This was good for three second a lap difference.

This is a super critical factor on pavement. The feds have withheld this info from the public in an effort to cause harm to the wheelie boys. They finally caved on this tactic after a bazillion dollar study proved that the WBs don't buy new tires and actually prefer super roasted 'scuffs' from 'new' used bikes...

I do. There is a difference on hard pack. Anything else, not so much.

Cutting them off would certainly make the tire lighter.

That’s why they went to metal start gates. It grates the nubs off before the race begins.

Makes things a lot safer.

When I see those little nubbin’s, I like to tug on them with my teeth. Kind of reminds me of when I was dating this girl and she had this awesome set of.............., oh never mind.Tongue
