Interesting article. I've tried to learn as much as possible about helmet safety over the years... One thing that has stayed constant is that EPS [expanded polystyrene], the foam that lines the inside of your helmet, is still the most effective material at single-impact energy absorption. To date, ANYTHING that reduces the amount of EPS is a step backwards in terms of safety. There is no shortage of marketing doodads that have done just that. Dual density EPS layers was a good addition, as was MIPS for rotational force. With all the technology we have, there has to be something better though, right? Maybe this is it??

No doubt an easier crush will result in less low impact concussions. Unfortunately it will be one and done.

Ping's statement about reducing safety with less EPS is IMO only in relation to today's testing standards, which are quite questionable with relation to concussions.

Kali has reduced EPS by using a self healing foam attatched to the shell and a soft foam inside of it.

Are you saying the 6D and Fly Formula helmets don't offer more impact absorption than helmets with just EPS?
