Good or bad idea.

Racing this weekend in Florida from Virginia. Ordered the Vertex last week and just got the email that it's back ordered.

The local shop has a Wiseco Piston Kit on hand.

Any risk or reasons to not go with the Wiseco?

They're great pistons... put it in and ride the bike. But make sure you warm the bike up before Jr. goes WFO!

No reason at all. Always ran Vertex in our KTM's just out of habit but have ran the Wiseco in many other bikes. As long as ring gap/cylinder clearance/etc. is all checked just like any other piston be just dandy.......

Like Toddler says, make sure the bike is warm before riding. Wiseco pistons are forged, which makes the heat expansion properties different. That brand used to have an undeservedly bad reputation for seizing, because people would cold seize the motors when the piston expanded faster than the cylinder did, and wedged itself in the bore.

Ran them for 20 years in my 2 smokes. Never had a single issue. Just let it let it warm up as mentioned.

I sold and sometimes installed 100's of Wiseco pistons, really cannot remember and issues attributed to the Wiseco piston. I have had 2 or 3 Vertex pistons crack after some use.

It will get the job done, but be mindful that it is a lighter piston due to the forging vs. casting process, so the bike will have slightly different power characteristics. Definitely warm it up good, and let it rip!

Wiseco only makes the "B" size piston. Make sure you look at the stamp on the side of the cylinder, if it is an A cylinder the Wiseco piston will NOT fit. I wanted to run Wisecos on my sons 2018 KTM 85, but the B size had no clearance in his A cylinder. When I got it replated I had them bump the size up to "B" so I could use Wiseco. I wanted to switch back to Wiseco because I have had too many cast pistons shatter with less than 10 hours in those little 85s even with proper clearances, tight crank and proper jetting (including Pro-x and Vertex).

In my mind, we they say warm it up the mean really warm it up, the radiator tank should be warm.
