It's much easier to fool people than convince them they have been lied too.

Just look at how many people still change their car's oil every 3k miles. Idiots. 10-15k is totally acceptable even for the average shitty driver. So imagine how long engine oil life lasts for the guy who properly warms up his car EVERY time throughout the life of the vehicle.

I think blow-by on a dirtbike does more to shorten oil lifespan than actual ride time.

But, calling yourself smart because you have a different opinion than the group is just laughable.
I don't have a different opinion. Because this topic is not subjective. I simply know something you dont. Thus making me smarter than you.

You know a lot less about oil than you think. And no.......I'm not getting involved with one of your little arguments that you like to suck people into. I've been working for an oil manufacturer for close to 20 years and I can tell you that you don't know as much as you try to let people think you know.

I'm not an expert on "oil longevity "....but I will say dirt bikes tend to be pretty hard on engine oil , especially the 4 strokes since they run warmer. I have found out that over the 35 years of riding , racing dirt bikes.....the 3 - 5 hour mark is a good time to change it. Seems pretty burned and gets those little metallic pieces out of your oil sooner , instead of letting them float around in there a while.

If you want to be a cheap skate with your $7000.00 - $10,000.00 new dirt bike , by changing your oil every 10 - 15 hours...good luck. If it isn't totally hammered by then , you aren't riding it on anything other than a parking lot.

Spending $6.00 - $9.00 for a quart of oil every 3 - 5 hours is to much for you? Keep doing your thing. LaughingLaughing

Smarter than my peers yet socially awkward? That's accurate I suppose.

Does that make GuyB our version of Michael Scott?

You simply claim to know something without any physical proof. Delusions are not equal to actual knowledge, sorry chief.

You've already been sucked in. Grab a seat and enjoy yourself.

It seems I may know what I know. Because there are two groups in this debate. One seems to get longevity out of their 4 strokes by ignoring certain owners manual service recommendations that are written by bean counters. They've even cited a study that showed automobiles are capable of 100k miles.

The other group perpetuates the myth that 4t's are unreliable. They admittedly suck valves, live in 2nd gear, blow up motors, dont properly warm up their engines, free rev the bike for no reason while waiting on the starting line, and complain that if a 250F doesnt have the power to pull their fat asses around the track that the only solution is to live on the rev limiter like it's a 125t.

Which group sounds like they know what they are talking about?

Nah, more like fishing for someone to spar with. You write well and seem well educated, but I would not want you maintaining my bike. Cool

Jabroni is quite the antagonist and I haven't figured out his angle yet but overlooking the part of the thread that he's turned to a pissing match, I'd like to commend KTM for helping the OPs buddy out.

Final note;

I change my oil at frequent intervals, it may not help but it sure as fuck don't hurt.

If spending a few bucks, and a few minutes on oil replacement is too much of a buy in, this probably isnt the sport for you.

We’ve almost all seen the video of the KXF 450 out in the hills, revved up and ready to practice a start, and then “BOOM”.

Same thing happened this morning to my buddy. On the line for his first moto of the day, set the launch control, hit the gas and as soon as it hit the limiter...clank.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this happened? Relatively low hours for a 450 and still under the recommended hours for any engine work.

This is a 2017.5 KTM 450SX-F FE.

I'm guessing this was Eugene's bike? I was lined up right next to him when it happened.

KTM took care of it.

Woodstock KTM in Illinois is the dealer. While I haven’t bought a bike from them yet, I will be. No hassles at all and they’re there for the customer.

I think this may be the most impressive post on Vital in 2017. ^^^

It's good to know they take care of their customers too... Wink

You guys are making a mountain out of a molehill. A little JBWeld and some Pulp discounted Vertex parts and you'll be back in biz.
