Because he can be a top 5 guy? There's only a handful of others who can say that. They all have factory rides. Why wouldn't Roger want to have his number 2 rider also be able to get top 5's?

Is this a serious question?

Webb is going to be a good number 2 guy on the team. A solid top 10 guy with some top 5/3 finishes.

I don't think that this move is going to do anything for him result wise. The 17 Yamaha might have been a problem for him, but the 18 Yamaha is a fantastic bike, even for smaller guys. I would actually argue that the Yamaha is a more comfortable bike for shorter guys compared to the KTM.

The only guy that i would pick ahead of Webb is Barcia, but he was already signed with Yamaha.

I’m not a Webb fan but seriously guys... Look what happened to Zach O with a little guidance. Webb was an animal in the 250 class indoors and out

True, but Dungey could ride any brand, and always get on that box.

The 250 is not the 450.

3 250 championships in 2 years and a results drop has made him a cheap target for a 3 time champ. Maybe the issue is the team not the rider, although Barcia has looked good, not won a Moto though.

The factory Yamaha effort was a team designed to retain Webb and bring Reed back to Yamaha. Neither were happy there. It’s a team that hasn’t ever had a winning program.

Last champion on Factory Yam was GL in 07. Reed and Stew were on L&M.

Webb was on Star which is a winning program. If he moves to KTM it’s a winning program. Proven by Dungey, Musquin is in the hunt year in year out. Maybe that’s the boost he needs.

Cooper Webb needs a change and working with Baker will help. I would not count the guy out next year if stays healthy in my opinion.

That’s the same thing people said about Villopoto before he started training with him

do yourself a favor and check out carmichael’s results in his first two years in the big bike class. coopers results are better then the goats. you must be quick to forget the talent he had on the little bikes. coopers future is bright

Cooper is not the first guy to move to the 450s and struggle a bit and won't be the last. Like mentioned above look at Villopoto. I believe he'll get it turned back around and reach his potential. Writing a guy like Webb off after two years of not so great results would be foolish for any team manager.

Carmichael won 2 National Championships his first two years. And didn't he win his first SX main in his second year. Cooper is not even close.

If, and I say, IF the rumor is true then I'd guess Roger has identified what's holding Cooper back and has an idea about how to fix it. The MAN has a pretty good eye for potential. Having said that, I believe Roger is heavy on results...no slackers on the bus. If Coop knows his moto history/royalty...he can learn some things from Roger...if he's a punk...the opportunity will be wasted.

Heavy on results?
C'mon... Musquin's been there since 2010, missing two titles a year save for that 2015 east coast.

I think Roger sees potential. Cooper needs a change of scenery and a fresh start. He has speed and determination. Just remember that AC and Cooper came in to the pro ranks at the same time. Look at the sum of their results. He will be one of the top 5 main guys next year.

Predict the change will be good and he will do better and definitely stay off the ground more.

If Plessinger moves to the 450 full time next season, I could see him out perform Webb all season. I wonder, given the choice, would DeCoster want Webb over Plessy if Aaron was available.

Interesting thoughts and why I posted. Some good factual well thought replies. And some stupid fan boy shit. IMO he’s never been the same since blowing it at MXdN. I guess I’m from Missouri. Show meUnsureUnsure

I'm still pretty big on Coop I just think it's time for a big change, some guys just need it. And going to KTM i think would be great, I dunno how well him and Marv would get along though. I have faith he'll turn it around and hopefully be the Webb we seen in 2016.

Yes check out Rickys records. He won the outdoor title every year he raced. Every! Won supercross races his first season the title his second. Your comparing apples to oranges

I heard this on one of Matthes’ podcasts and couldn’t believe they didn’t challenge it. Whoever made that stat up did some seriously creative calculations because Ricky Carmichael turned pro in 1997 and won the 125 National Championship in 1997, 1998 and 1999 before moving to the 250 class and winning that his rookie season by over 80 points. Like somebody else mentioned, Ricky Carmichael never lost an outdoor championship, ever.

It couldn't have worked out better for KTM.

They went after him when both Marvin and he were on 250s. Yamaha pulled out the cheque book. Cooper's value has crashed but his talent is just some comfort away.

Maybe wait and see if he sucks for two more years before declaring DeCoster doesn't know what he's doing?

They were talking about big bikes after transitioning to the main class... but they obviously omitted RC's 00/01 outdoor seasons and were talking about SX.

Even in 250 SX, Ricky won a race and got like 5 podiums his rookie year in 2000.
