Theres only so many points to give out, would be way to much of a point advantage for getting first, over someone else in the championship hunt that had a dnf
Supercross provides points to 20 out of 22 riders in the main, why not rescale the mx series to issue points to say 35 or 40 riders. Would provide a reference for the national top 100 or more numbers issued, and give riders more of an incentive to improve their position in a moto even though they may in the back of the pack.
I agree and disagree with awarding points for people outside the top 20, but I also think you guys are disrespecting the guys out there busting their asses. It would give guys motivation to work for every position since the field gets a bit stale outside the top 25.

I knew the SX points thing was going to be brought up. First, they give points to all 22 riders that make the main event.
-MX has 40 gates
-Top 40 fastest qualifiers make the motos
-40 guys battle it out to make the top 20 points paying positions.
-SX has 22 gates
-Top 40 fastest qualifiers make the night show
-Heat races: top 9 make the main event, 2 heats = 18 riders, 4 positions left to fill.
-LCQ: top 4 transfer to the main event, remaining riders are done for the night and are awarded no point.
-40 riders total battled it out of which 22 were awarded points.
It May help prevent racers in say 30th+ to keep their speed up instead rolling around; so when the leaders come by to lap, the speed difference isn’t dramatically different, and safer by preventing collisions. Also provides a ranking reference for upcoming racers to secure sponsorship.

IMO Point "systems" are stupid. Olympic scoring is the Truth, Reality, not manufactured or manipulated by outside influences.
Lowest position total Wins Period. No Bullshit the Winner gets a bigger prize shit.
1st should be 1 f'ing point
2nd is 2 and so on all the way to anyone on the line.
Anyone who doesn't make the main gets last +1 (41 points) so quit your snowflake crying about how to handle that shit.
It is to the Promoter and Sanctioning body's benefit to keep the title races close, and giving a 5 point spread between 1st and 2nd does the opposite. Math isn't so hard when there are no points charts to look up.
Yes I realize Ryan Dungey will win Championships over James Stewart with this method. If you can't keep it on 2 wheels I don't care how many races you can win until you crash. Danny Chandler RIP the great Magoo was really fast, Championships were not his thing. Is he the Goat?

I always thought that seemed like the most fair system, but I don't understand the metric that they use to actually make and formulate the rules. I'm a fan of that subjectivity, though. "Closest to "1" is first" with a point added per place: 1=1, 2=2, etc. Sounds like a good idea on paper IMO.
How about a production rule for all motorcycles. Everyone is allowed to change spring rate and valving to their suspension. The motors stay stock w/ the assist of exhaust and mapping changes.
The playing field would level out nicely and open the door for more guys to score points.
100% they should. Doesn’t cheapen anything. Does help all the riders finishing in those positions make a case for sponsorships that are applicable at their level.

Points system are very similar for both series.

For the record, I gave you a thumbs down for that comment !
