I know he has done this in the past, but after a full season on a 450 and clearly the best rider on his team why was he not in mxgp class?

Why not?
depth in the mxgp class is deeper Herlings would win there anyways and Coldenhoff might.do better against the open class field?

Because they want Herling to win his class and if they put him in MXGP maybe he wont win the class. Coldenhoff wouldnt win the open class or MXGP so IMO they can get a for sure win in the open class.

Isn't the whole class thing kind of random and silly anyway? Covington might do better on a 250, they should let them pick what they want.

Only 1 per 250, and Osborne got the nod. Surprisingly in this case 2 rider's on 250's might have been better for us.
You gonna be on the Endurocross thread tonight?

It doesn't matter if uou win your class. Your finishing position in a race is the score, not the position in your class.
The extra rest for Coldenhow could be the key.

I get what you're saying but if you're the 1st rider in your class to finish that means no one else in that class scored as well as you. Which is exactly what you want.

I doubt he's second guessing it, he got a pretty good start for having 37th gate. I doubt that'd be the case if he was on a 250 against 450s. Although with a better gate I can definitely see where you're coming from.

Honestly fellers, not sure how much slower Jeff would be if he was riding 125 Zundapp. He's just that good. I exaggerate but we all know he's gonna win his class barring a crash or mechanical.

So that Coldenhoff has more rest between races - quote from team manager

I was thinking that he should ride the 350, a little easier transition.

Also if he was racing in MXGP and got 3rd (hyperthetical because he could of won, just throwing out a if/but), or crashed while running a faster pace, then they would of been pushed to 3rd in qualifying. Gate pick is everything at a race like this so I guess that's the strategy they are going for.

Herlings should go 1-1, no matter where. So, wouldn't it make sense to put him in the hardest motos.

I am really confused by this..

It's a team event, not the Jeffery show.
In order to maximise potentially getting better results, the team thinks It's better to give Coldenhoff more time in between races. It's simple really.

It's so simple yet everyone wants to make a big deal out of it.

Herlings did it specifically at Lommel to race back to back motos on an incredibly rough track with the least rest

KTM needs to build up a 320 or something of that size 2 stroke and get someone to race it in the open class to see what interest it gets

Yeah I don't agree with this either. I'd want Herlings to be taking away points from the best for two motos. Not just one.
