I might be living "in a vacuum", but I'm less concerned about Tomac than most of his previous years. He's been there and he'll be there at the end. Too much fight and pride for the #1 to lay down. He's just getting started.
Who’s this guy? No “fan boy” or “it’s the bike” or angry anti-anything?

Ban this guy!

i'd be more worried that he hasn't dropped a race or 2 by now like every other year he competes in. hes in the hunt and we're only a 1/3rd in...every other year hes down a full race and has to win out to take title (which he almost pulled off a few years).

i'd say hes doin just fine.

Personally I think we're seeing the inevitable drop off that comes with age. Sure he can still win races and may even have those crazy moments...
Personally I think we're seeing the inevitable drop off that comes with age. Sure he can still win races and may even have those crazy moments where he just looks unbeatable but I suspect they will be few and far between. Have to remember no one has ever won their first SX title at 27, it was always going to be a big ask to defend it.

Unfortunately for him he spent a big chunk of his prime being unable to put together an SX title.
^^This

\We have heard guys like McGrath and Stanton speak about a 10-year window in this sport. As much mental as physical, especially given how injuries can affect a rider. McGrath in particular has said once you are 100% all-in it's a 10 year window. Dungey: 2007-2017. RV: 2006-2014. Carmichael: 1997-2006/7. Of course there are outliers like Reed and LaRocco.

Tomac turned pro in May 2010. Starting with his debut SX season in 2011 onward he has been in some form of championship pressure except for 2014 his rookie 450 season.

I see both sides of this, but as a fan I will say I am a little concerned, he has only beaten Roczen in 1 race out of 6. That's not good. If say he beat Roczen at 2 or 3 rounds, even without a win then okay, that's a little better.

Eli needs to start beating Ken and often, or it's over. 24 points isn't insurmountable, but it's a big gap after 6 rounds. He also needs to get a better start than Barcia or find a quick way around him that doesn't allow for retaliation.

The lead at Thunder Valley in moto 2 before he crashed was around 10-15 seconds, not 1:30.

Yeah, 2015 Hangtown Moto 2 he finished 1:30 in the lead. Fucking unreal. Dungey was somewhat speechless.

I didn't forget. I also didn't forget that the gap before he crashed wasn't huge. It was 10 seconds, comfy, but not huge.

pretty sure it's just maturity as a person and rider and going for consistency with as many top 5's as possible and not crashing out or DNFs along the way. That formula got Webb the #1 a couple years ago. He still CAN go 110% when needed and a couple Ws will surely come later. Roczen riding like superman and it may be his year, but anything can happen.

As I stated in my comment he is fast as the top guys ever to do it, he has shown more than one occasion when it's not going his way he melts.

He's not cut from the same cloth as RC, RV and JS where they're ALWAYS charging forward like their life depends on it.

Again I'll repeat I'm not dismissing his ability in fact the race you mentioned I've never seen anyone go that fast in America.

Tomac is the fastest rider in the field still but he has something holding him back and in my opinion for him it's always mental or do or die attitude, the guys i listed above don't really have bad days regardless if they go down, bikes bent out of shape or a shit race setup.
