Why doesnt ESPN show MX/SX Highlights?

A friend asked me how come ESPN doesnt show highlights from Supercross and at first I thought that it was because Supercross is on NBC Sports.

I dont watch ESPN but he said that they show highlights from most other forms of motorsports and pretty much all sports even if they arent hosted by ESPN, so why not supercross/motocross?

I dont know if he is correct or not and Im not sure if it would help draw in more fans but it would put supercross in front of a few people who may not even know the sport exists. I wonder how many ESPN viewers know who Ricky Carmichael is or if they could name off even one current competitor.

So why doesnt ESPN show highlights? If the answer is not because of NBC Sports, i would guess that is because time is valuable and there isnt a demand for Supercross highlights from their viewers.

Why don’t they show lawnmower racing highlights? We aren’t a “sport”. They didn’t show highlights when they were the ones televising the races.

If I’m not mistaken, Disney/ABC owns ESPN, hence the conflict.... but yeah, it’s a sport ferchrisakes, a great one. They’ll show women’s curling highlights tho....

He's right ya know. It's a niche novelty. "Grow" the sport is for the business moguls looking to skim the cream off the top.

I honestly don’t think espn is at all interested in two wheeled racing...

I’ve been in this sport for 32 of my 37 years on this earth. I love it and want it to grow, but damn this had me dead AF. I literally laughed so loud the other parents at the park looked at me like I am crazy.

...because (A) the most demanding sport on earth would blow everyones minds if they knew how hard it really is, OR (2) MX and SX are not really sports, unlike poker and video game tournaments.

I mean, the bike does all the work, right? All you have to do is chug down a Monster and turn the gas lever, right?

Curling is fucking hard.

My now ex wife went to medical school in Eastern Canada, and when I was there in the winter I got involved in a curling league - it is hard to throw the Curling Stone (or rock) straight after you have consumed 6 or 8 good strong Canadian Ale's. You have to drink before you play, its in the rule book...

It’s big to us fans but not to the rest of the world. It went from being on ABC’s wide world of sports in the 70’s to small cable channels in 2021. Dint expect things to ever change, just enjoy it for what it is 👍

Exactly. Nowadays they only report on social justice issues, and a few stick and ball highlights if there’s time left.

They are too busy playing with their Stick and Balls . . . besides, there's no money in it for them since there isn't any major betting cartel controlling our sport. Once betting in supercross becomes a thing, then ESPN will pay attention to what's happing on the track.

It's motorsports. They don't really show a ton of Nascar already. MX/SX is still to small. But are hockey's numbers more than Nascar? I think some still have the mindset of 'if it has a motor that they aren't working very hard'. Hell soccer is barely shown on SportCenter and it is the most popular sport in the world.

ESPN/Disney is directly competing with CBS/Paramount but they still showed super bowl highlights. So no on your NBC idea.

Why we would want to be on ESPN? Perfectly happy to fly under the radar and stay out of the mainstream.

I used to have ESPN on in the background all the time. Now that they've become the Woke Sports Network I can't even remember the last time I watched a Sportscenter.
