Why is a Hinson clutch an essential mod for every pro and magazine bike, even if the rest isn't highly modified? Why has it always been that way? In that question I'm asking, what is so much better about it and why haven't stock clutches caught up after so many years?
Although with a Pro rider, the stock one won’t last all that long.
I’ve had a complete Hinson clutch for my RMZ450 sitting on my shelf for 2 years. I have 70 hours on the stock one, with ZERO issues and plenty of life left.
The Shop
Absolutely minimum drag, or slip, much better starts and more connected rear tire to the ground.
Durability is fine on the Austrian stuff, but they absolutely slip and you won't know the difference until you try it.
I’ve put Hinson clutches in every single bike I’ve ever owned and have never had a problem. I held off installing the Hinson in my current bike, since it was still new. I’ve now ridden it more than 70 hours and it still looks and works like new. I’m obviously not a clutch abuser, although I do use it plenty. I’m do for a top end, so maybe I’ll put it in when I do a piston.... I have no complaints on the stock clutch in this bike, but I suppose I could be losing power.
the OEM units can't be made a little better and absorb a lost of that cost in quantity production.

Going from KTM position to Hinson just makes it to expensive for production.
