Why Hinson clutch?

Why is a Hinson clutch an essential mod for every pro and magazine bike, even if the rest isn't highly modified? Why has it always been that way? In that question I'm asking, what is so much better about it and why haven't stock clutches caught up after so many years?

For the most part, all the stock clutches have gotten much better and the Hinson isn’t as much of a needed item as it use to be.
Although with a Pro rider, the stock one won’t last all that long.
I’ve had a complete Hinson clutch for my RMZ450 sitting on my shelf for 2 years. I have 70 hours on the stock one, with ZERO issues and plenty of life left.

If you have a ktm, imo a hinson full system is a step down in technology.

The most noticeable mod I have ever done to any bike was a full Hinson setup in a 2013 kx 250f. I only had 12-15 hours on the stock clutch and the bike felt bogged down all the time, and the clutch would slip. The first 20 seconds on the track with the Hinson was amazing. Way more bite to the rear wheel (while still getting traction), you can feel the grip transferring power in the engine better, clutch feel was better. Everything was better.

A bit contradictory here aren't you? Saying the bike felt "bogged down all the time" would indicate the clutch was not slipping at all.

Same thing with my yz450. I'm around 45 hours and I use the clutch a lot. still works perfect.

It could be that the bike was bogged down as he was twisting the throttle and not getting the drive he should be IE bogged down in mud

Both Hinson and Recluse (not the auto) is major upgrade for both Japs and ktm/husky. Big difference.

Absolutely minimum drag, or slip, much better starts and more connected rear tire to the ground.

Durability is fine on the Austrian stuff, but they absolutely slip and you won't know the difference until you try it.

OP didn't ask the question but I just wanna say the full auto rekluse clutch is the single best mod I have ever made to a motor scooter. I race off road so YMMV for moto x. Although I do hit many moto practice days and for me it is still tits!

I want to get behind this, because for a little over $1000.... it BETTER help something, right ?
I’ve put Hinson clutches in every single bike I’ve ever owned and have never had a problem. I held off installing the Hinson in my current bike, since it was still new. I’ve now ridden it more than 70 hours and it still looks and works like new. I’m obviously not a clutch abuser, although I do use it plenty. I’m do for a top end, so maybe I’ll put it in when I do a piston.... I have no complaints on the stock clutch in this bike, but I suppose I could be losing power.

On my rmz, going to a full hinson was clear from the first crack of the throttle. Less slipping, consistent power, and clutch plates last longer.

If you don’t ride fast and for extended motos, you will never understand why Hinson is better and worth every penny!

$1,000.00??!! Man, way out of my budget but if it is really that magical, I have to wonder why the hell
the OEM units can't be made a little better and absorb a lost of that cost in quantity production.

Cost. How much to make a cast clutch compared to a billet clutch

I think KTM has differentiated, but not as far. 100h easy on 450 clutch, 10-15h on Japs 450.

Going from KTM position to Hinson just makes it to expensive for production.

What mechanically makes the Hinson slip less than OEM? Different friction plate material? Stiffer springs?

I don't use their plates. I use their clutch parts with oem plates.
