Who's the most succesful Off Road Racer to convert to MX?

Surprised me to discover that it was not Dick Burleson, who was default U.S. 500cc MX champ in 1970 by virtue of finishing first American overall in the Trans-AMA series. Burleson supposedly tried enduros after that, and switched to the tune of eight straight national enduro championships that decade. Another bad mofo on a dirt bike, but not in the right order to be the answer to the OP's question--

Plessinger waa never a "pure" offroad guy. He raced more mx as a kid then offroad.

I don’t know if they’ve ever tried to qualify for a national but Kailub Russell and Thad Duval can throw down on a moto track

I have often wonder the exact opposite. Why don't aging motocross riders convert to a career in off road or other disciplines that an older rider can compete at? Look at Guy Cooper and Mike Brown, they have both had very sucessful careers after motocross. So, who don't more motocrossers do this?
Quite a few just aren't as well rounded or aren't into that type of riding. I'd say quite a few have lost their love of riding by the time they get to that stage as well.
