At 15 I put on my Webco black leather pants with yellow stripes when I got up and would ride in the car like that. Had some trick goatskin Hallman GP pants the next year but had matured to the point of waiting til I got to the track to get suited up.

How about you guys?

I usually wait to put on my 1 piece Alpinestar TZ1 suite on until I get to the track. I don't think I could drive a car with it on, the hump would KILL my back.

When I was 13 I wore pants boots and jersey on the way to the track for a race or practice day,My dad would suggest that I wait and dress at the track, but I had to explain to him that I didn't want to waste time dressing when I could be riding.Could hardly sleep the night before knowing I was going to ride the next day.

Too cool of a story! I remember when I used to get that excited. I still do, on race days, get just as excited

A more apt question would be "who wore leathers?"

I wear my riding pants and jersey to the track just because it saves time.

Usually wore a pair of cut off jeans to the track then put my Torsten Hallman's on over them. Only time I wore them to the track was our annual mid winter 2 Hour Scrambles. Too damn cold to do otherwise.

I always considered it to be a fashion "faux pas" to be caught wearing riding gear anywhere but at the track / riding area.

Took my gear off between motos too if it was a long enough delay between races...

I'm old too. Had some real leathers....

Me too. Used to have Bill Walters with the natural suede/rough out and quilted with the black leather. Worked at Tracy's of Burbank and Bill Walters Leathers was upstairs between Tracy's and Al Fox's Maico shop.

Yes. I had a pair of Hallman goatskins. But not the ones with the knee cups. I can't remember, but I think I wore them to the track at first. With a tshirt and tennis shoes. Would finish getting dressed at the track. Don't forget to ask how many people have driven down the road with their Bell Magnum and Jofa on.

We must be pretty close in age. My yellow stripe TH's had the quilted knees too (pre-inserts) and I traded a pair of really clapped out lineman's for a pair of Full Bores just like those.

1976-78 I not only worn my gear to the track, I rode my YZ125 to the track, raced it and rode it home. Lived about two miles from the track in Ponca city. Some days I even stopped at the car wash on union street and washed all the mud off before riding home.

Around '76, we took a neighbor kid to ride his first race on his clapped out YZ 80. It was a night race, but the summer days were long here, and hot as hell. The kids dad drops him off at our house with his bike about 3:30 in the afternoon. Mike already has his helmet on as he steps out of the car.

His lid was about three sizes too big, and his mother had helped him fit a towel inside the helmet to take up space. He was afraid he would not be able to get it put back together as mom had it, even after we assured him it would not be a problem to get it situated again. He wore that damn helmet from about 3:00 pm to around 11:00 - 11:30 pm on a hot, humid ,sweltering Florida summer afternoon. From his house , to our place, to the track, helmet on ,only taking it off once the races were over.

He wore that damn thing about 8-9 hours straight.

Any road racer has leathers. I have a set of kangaroo and the alpinestars I spoke on above.

Exactly same here with MX. In my drag boat racing days, I' saw people wear their firesuits to breakfast.; 100+ degrees and they are in a 3 layer firesuit.

I can say, without an ounce of shame, that back when I first started riding I would SLEEP in my gear. I learned to ride at Jawbone canyon ( next to mojave), and I was so stoked to wake up I couldn't waste any time getting ready in the morning. i would wait till my parents fell asleep, grab my still sweaty and dirty gear, get geared up, and then fall asleep.

I can remember gettin up with the sun and riding my KX60 around the trailers until someone woke up to take me on a trail ride ( I knew better then to leave the camp ground without someone mom or dad trusted).

I can say I am very fortunate in this life for what I have, but I would give anything, short of my family, to be able to have that love and passion again for just one more day.

Got my one and only set of leathers in 1977 at John Banks shop in Bury St Edmunds if memory serves. I broke them out a few years back for a two hour HS. At the end I swear they weighed at least 10 lbs with all that sweat. I had also forgotten how they dyed my legs blue for days afterwards. I loved them back in the day but I'll stick with my Moose vented.

Ha! I have a similar photo and my PW is in the back of a Kingswood panel van... I have to go and get my box of photos from storage for these kind of moments.

In regards to wearing "leathers" to the track, that was before my time... My brother and I wore our gear to a little, (not so legit), practice track about 20 minutes from his house; 5:00am Monday, Tuesday, and sometimes Wednesday, during winter, (a So Cal winter), before he would go to work.

I couldn't drive a manual with my Alpinestars though.Silly

I had Malcolm Smith 'Gold Medal' leathers that I wore to Rio in the 70s. Red/Yellow color matched my Electro helmet.

I like to ride enduro's , so some time it's a pretty early start. I would put my riding shorts, pants, socks and jersey on at home to save time. Just don't see the point of getting dressed, going to the race getting undressed and dressed again. always got changed after the race though would not be able to drive home in dirty riding gear!
