I notice some people do and some don’t. I was thinking about starting to wear one because I’m pretty sure I clench my jaw bad when I’m riding.

Who else wears one?

My son got me into riding with one. Having ridden for many years without one, it was a change. Now I can't ride without mouthguard or earplugs.

You'll find a bunch of opinions in this thread.

It is a teeth saver, but mainly it helps prevent concussions when shit goes sideway.

The Mayo Clinic did a study for USA hockey and they told us that a mouth guard does nothing for preventing concussions. As a coach we had to study for a test and that is the answer on the test. But i do wear one occasionally when i ride to save my teeth.

Since breathing through your nose in general is better than mouth (lowers pulse by up to 5bpm, prepares body for increased co2 in the system), yes it does help.

But I need to run a nose patch to free up air ways through nose of court.

I wear a Shock Doctor guard. I have an issue where I clench when I ride. I also had an issue with my jaw from concussions and whiplash. My TMD specialist recommended I wear one.

There is also research that says helmets do not prevent concussions in sport as well as mouth guards. I’m gonna keep wearing my helmet and mouth guard thank you very much...

Son has worn one for 3 years now. From the looks of them he bites down pretty hard on them and or chews on them alot. He got landed on my a 65 while on a 50jr and chipped a baby tooth. Has worn one ever since. Santa brought him one that has the lip guard and 2 breather holes. He uses them during soccer also.

I used to, but I found it difficult to keep the mouth piece clean throughout the day and stopped using it.

Ear plugs and mouth guards every time. I feel uncomfortable without them, now.

from someone who just turned 50, I wish I had used one in moto and sprint cars for the last 35 years. pretty bad tinnitus and many broken teeth is no fun.

After a number of concussions, do use a mouth guard along with a 6d to help out avoiding another one as much as possible.

I've noticed at the end of race a number of top mx guys pull a very flimsy looking mouth guard out...they look so thin and flimsy not sure what kind of guard it is?

It’s cheap compared to dental work lol

I’ve been using one for about the past two years. I’ve noticed that in addition to the benefits of less chipped teeth and post-ride headaches (bruxism caused maybe?), but that I’m now conscious of when I’m clenching down on it and tense, and I can tell myself to relax and breathe.

The first one I posted has the MORA technology that positions the jaw into optimal position for performance.

I wear one racing cars for a couple of reasons, one I got a pretty nasty concussion without my head hitting anything, but my chin slammed into my chest. I still recall the shock of my teeth slamming together, another is that setting my teeth against the guard is habit from lacrosse and hockey that makes me feel like I'm ready to GO!

They will also save you from bitting through your lip also!! Always use a mouth guard whatever sport your doing or playing. Photo

Started to use one last week because of a cracked tooth. Seeing a dentist tomorrow. Got used to it very quickly , don’t even notice it’s in . Took a bad crash and hit my head pretty hard , my vision was a bit blurry for a while , but no concussion. And I’ve had quite a few of them. Makes me now wonder if it did help my brain ? ? Using one is a no brainer 😀 for me that is.
