I believe #7 is open in a few weeks unless James goes out and collects 25 points. What is the qualification to run a single digit #?

You must be a National Champion. (Outdoor nationals or 450SX.)

#7 will be available in 2019 too.

Edit: I wonder if Zachary will take a single digit, I doubt he'd take #7, but I wouldn't be surprised if he took 5. I bet Dungey would be cool with it

#5 won't be available until next year.

#7, #27, and #29 should all be available for 2018.

#5, and #41 will be available for 2019.

They should Give Stewart and RC numbers like 04 & 07 and retire them for 10-20 years

24-0 is an amazing feat that should be recognized for many years if not permanently

Wouldn't it be for 2020? They would need to go 2018 and 2019 without earning 25 points.

Will use Brett Metcalfe and his career #24 for reference.

Brett scored points during the 2015, scoring more than 25 points. So he kept #24 for 2016.
Brett did not score any points in 2016 and his #24 was available in 2017 and Austin Forkner was given the #24 from the points he earned in 2016.

I would love to see someone pick one of those two especially the 8 since no one has ran that one since Langston.

Why is it that no one has picked the 8? Too "boring" looking?

Interesting. I was under the impression they made the rule two years to account for injuries. In your example, say Metty was hurt all of 2016, the AMA didn't feel it would be fair to give his number away in 2017. I would if one can voluntarily give it up if requested and this is what Metty did?

Zacho strikes me as an 8 guy. It just seems to fit him.

IF, notice that's a big if, JS7 does come back next year is he not still a past national and 450sx champion? Once you fail at getting 25 points is that privilege gone?

You need to score 25 points in order to keep your permanent/career number and I believe the exception to that rule is if you get injured. If you get injured you get 1 year as a "pass".

Honestly, I don't think it matters if he didn't score the amount of points needed. If Hansen was able to petition or whatever to get the 100 back I'm sure JS7 won't have a problem keeping the 7.

A while back when Axl Rose was dragging his feet for a decade to release Chinese Democracy at some point The Offspring said they were going to name their next album that. Caused a bit of a stir. Osbourne should threaten to claim it a see what Stew will pay for him not to.

I know the rule is that it has to be idle for a year, but if Zach wanted it, and Dungey said he could have it since he is most definitely retired, then if the two of them approached the AMA and requested the change, would the AMA still not allow it.

Last year I would have bet money that Webb would have taken it. This year I don't think anyone would touch it.

I think Marvin might take it, 2 plus 5 equals 7.

An exception will be made if no one wants the number.

Just like a random rule change for the guys in the 250 class this past year. Or how guys used their provisional starting spot in SX when they didn't have any more. Or how RC got his points back even though his gas was illegal. Or how foreigners don't have to ride the road to supercross that never have raced supercross before but Justin Cooper will have to go through that process.

Just a hunch...........
