If there’s a legend who has been there and done that, it’s Ernie! I remember how the world we lived in stopped those few weeks after San Diego, then his injury. The track it happened at we road the day after and being told our bike brand wasn’t allowed on the track, so we rode the side track. It was a state we all wanted him and the entire industry to get threw with good news. Every kid of that era looked up and wanted to be who Ernie was, he was the kid who made it from some country people didn’t even think of and it fueled a lot of careers, he was a legend on the Yamaha of Troy team and made them into bits and pieces of every team today. He really was that guy. I could go on and on about the stuff me and mike screamed at as kids watching him, winning titles and racing kids from here we thought were the next big thing. That guys a big legend to anyone who knows what he did in our world.

Was a great listen Erny that podcast. Loved the bit about him and that chick when he turned 18. That Troy Lee gear he wore back in the day still looks so great to this day.

It was a bummer to hear that he wasn’t enjoying things towards the end of his career. Sounds like he wasn’t too fond of that 06 CRF450, which is weird because that was an amazing bike. I could see it being a handful on supercross though. Wish things could have ended better for him but it sounds like he has moved on and is doing well. Great show Ping!

Man, he lived up to the fonz name.
Dude always looked super cool both in his YoT years with some cool Fox gear, I remember the gear with the orange and thought it was so badass and then his Troy Lee Honda years

He always came across as a really nice guy too.

In high school Spanish class my name was Ernesto, after the great dirt bike rider from Costa Rica. That was in 2000-01.

I saw him race his kodac yz125 at amateur day at 97 gainsville. The last factory cr125 and cr250 rider . I was bummed when he got on the 450. He looked great on the cr250.

Thank you David Pingree for this one. Ernie oozes an amazing combo of coolness and tranquility. I could listen to him talk all day long. I really enjoyed your talk with him and the love you both shared with the late great Nicky Hayden 69.
