Chad Reed got me thinking about which record might be considered untouchable over the lifetime of our sport. Would love to hear what people think. I didn't create a poll, just wanted to engage in some discussion as each of these records will be pretty tough to beat in their own right, and maybe I have missed some-please add if you feel they have the same gravitas as the ones listed below:

Chad-264 main event SX starts (and counting)
Chad-160 Top 5 finishes
Chad-132 Podium finishes
Ryan D-31 consecutive podiums
MC-7 SX Championships
MC-72 SX wins
RC-150 combined MX/SX wins
RC-10 consecutive MX championships-never lost an outdoor championship
RC-24 consecutive moto wins in MX
RC-2 undefeated outdoor seasons
RC-lapping up to second place in an outdoor championship race

Tough list! To break any one of these requires an amazing record of health, durability, consistency, longevity, and a heaping dose of good fortune. I'm going to go with Chad Reed and 264 Main event starts in a tie with RC's combined win total. I never said anyone couldn't call a tie!

I can’t see anyone surpassing the first one on your list or duplicating the last one.

The 3 big ones, total and Sx wins and Chads starts... they’re gonna stand the test of time. I mean, MX is so hard that if favors dominate athletes anyways but consider this...

We’ve had potentially 6 of the top ten riders ever since MC and his Sx wins aren’t even close to a problem... James is basically two good seasons away and he wasn’t consistent enough to get it done despite a massive speed advantage.

RC’s total win list is stupid. What’s the next closest guy? Most total careers are close to 10 years for the freaks and he defended 10 outdoor titles straight. That’s a lot of wins right there.

Same for Reeds starts.... 17 years of mains? How
Many others went near that, let alone that level. Ward and LaRocco, maybe Windham?

Hannah was only a short distance from lapping Kent Howerton who was in second at Hamgtown in 78, so it took RC awhile before he tied that record

Grinning It'll be tough to beat without pointing out.

To be clear, I have nothing against Martin or anyone wanting to ride the 250 class.

It's just really surprising that someone of his caliber took so long to point out of the class.

Probably MC and RC total wins and championships. RC total wins and 24 & 0 twice. Chad's 264 likely to stand as well.

Hasn't happened yet, but I don't think anyone will ever go undefeated in SX

I know, said that about outdoors, but SX is different animal in short races
Too many variables

No one will win a 250 championship on a 125 again. All those other records can be broken.

It depends on how long the sport of mx/sx will live on. If it lives on until the earth explodes, all of them will be broken.

My thoughts too. Maybe things will look different in future where a rider comes through with no one close to his equal. But all those records look damn near impossible to beat.

Be better to guess which (if any) is next to be broken

It can only be tied, but winning a title with no wins like Tim Ferry.

I don't think we'll ever see that again.

Langston did it outdoors in 2003 for the 125 National title. And JMB won the 1991 250 Nationals without winning an overall.

Man, that's even worse than Ferry. His was a regional title. Outdoors, that's got to sting a little bit.

Cheque cleared, so I suppose that helps, lol.

Sexton almost did this in 2019.

The better question is which WILL be broken. Most of those are really solid.

Granted over the pond, but Ramon won the MXGP/MX1 world title without a GP win.

longevity along with the duration of dominance in order to achieve any of these records is hard.most of these guys are burned out in a 10 year span even for the top guys. Each of those guys capitalized in unique times where they had something that put them above the competition.

For someone today to match these records, he has to stay healthy, as this allows them to build each year.
He has to thrive on difficult situations, be adaptable to changing conditions, have an endless hunger to keep pushing.

I dont see anyone coming close in the next decade at the very least
