Finally wore out my old Polar M400 and am in need of a new fitness watch. I'd like to stick with another Polar product if possible. I'm not a runner and will use the watch primarily for moto and mountain biking, with occasional road biking and hiking thrown into the mix. I would also like the ability to sync the watch with my iphone to see who's calling or texting. Beyond the aforementioned, any other features would be considered fluff. What Polar product are you moto, off road and mountain bike guy's using? I'm not totally married to Polar, so am open to other suggestions, but would prefer Polar if possible.
The M2 you can control your phones music aswell as get notifications of texts, calls, etc and it will show from who
Email me at info@viralmoto.com if you have any questions or if you want to order a Polar watch I can try and get you a a little bit better deal on one as I’m an authorized dealer.
Thanks
Truth is, If you have a Garmin you can create your own ‘Motocross profile’
I have done on my Garmin Fenix 6 pro. I’ve created profiles for MX, green-laning, motorcycle trials, cyclocross on top of the ‘usual’ profiles they have already installed.
You can choose your activity and any metric you are interested in. HR, Speed, Elevation, steps, distance, basically anything you want to know.
The point I’m making is don’t let ‘motocross profile’ be the selling point.
The Shop
Still using my Vantage M, has been great, I'm sure the M2 is even better
We just use the "Bike" profile with Garmin and it works great. I will have to look into creating a custom "Moto" profile.
That being said, some things.... garmin wrist HR sucks. Flaky as hell. Drops data all the time. From what I understand basically every other brand uses a 3d party wrist HR sensor that actually works but garmin decided to do their own proprietary thing that sucks. Maybe that has changed in the last few years?
Garmin does not have a built-in lap-tracker for MX that actually works. Had to use the 3rd party Motosports app that sucked. Total hit or miss.
Garmin to Lit-Pro is sketchy at best. More miss than hit when it comes to tracking laps correctly. if it's a practice day and you are careful to enter end exit the track at the exact same spot, it usually will pick it up somewhat OK. But, guess what, MX races have a separate start lane on race day. So, my moto gets broken into about 99 different 10 second "laps", all fubar.
So, I've noticed that the Polar guy has actually posted here on Vital and Polar seems to give a crap about MX and actually trying to make the lap tracking "built in". Is that true? If that's true, and if the HR sensor actually works, I might consider doing a Polar and dealing with yet another app and profile, etc.
I'm not going to fanboy too much, but I really like my Polar Vantage. I particularly like the Polar Flow app, which tracks your cardio workouts and more or less gives you a score. It's been unexpectedly life changing to have my cardio performance quantified and feel that I'm held accountable for keeping it up.
I definitely go to the gym more often just because I know I'll drop down into the dreaded "detraining" category if I skip...
Pit Row
@MX558 The Polar watches have an AUTOLAP feature and an option is LOCATION-BASED. When you start your watch, likely on the track and not in the pits, every time you pass that spot, it will register a lap. Remember, I do not ride, but this might be easier and safer if the Polar watch is mounted on the bars versus your wrist, plus it protects the watch if you dump the bike. In some photo galleries, you may notice our products on the bars. Look under the U on BAMBAM's bars.
Me, however I use a vantage V
GPS, laps, timing and the detail in showing what lines you took are great for 300.00.
Thank you for training with Polar. See if the Summer heat is raising your avg HR or if your Training Load is higher so specific rides, this can impact your calories burned. If I do a 10K training run and it is hot and humid, all of my numbers are higher and my Running Index is lower. See if the numbers went higher on standard training rides or workouts.
It doesn’t on my Fenix. But no problem, I’ll create one in less than five minutes!
The selling point being ANY profile, ANY can be added within minutes. If that’s not a great selling point, I don’t know what is..
