My friend passed away in 2011, so I started running his number 797.

I used to be 832 before, birthday is 3-2-79, 7+9=16 and 8*2= 16. I know weird but made sense at the time.

Well, my first ever race number, 222, came from an old McClean and McClean comedy skit about the price is right, and Wanita Sanchez bid Two Two Two bob hahahaha

My current 318 came because I lost 222 when I didn't get my license renewed in time. 318 is one of the best Dodge motors ever made, had one in my 97 Dakota at the time (5.2L).

I ran many numbers through the years.
My first race I was #10 because that’s what was on my bike when I bought it. Turns ou it was a pos so I showed up at my 2nd race with a brand new bike. I was late, so I chose #11 because it could be done quickly with electrical tape. I ran that number the rest of the year.

My second year I started doing provincials so I couldn’t keep my number. The speed skating federation gave me #245 when I was a kid so I went with it for mx.

I asked for the lowest available number the next few years and long story short, had 16, 116, 14. Moved up to the expert class in 03 and top 20 were according to previous year results so I couldn’t keep 14. I went for 74. I ended up finishing 14th overall so I got the 14 back in 04. Didn’t race seriously after that so I went back to the 245 which I still have to this day.

My son started riding this year and asked to have the same number as me, so I’ll be passing it to the next generation.

I raced vintage before I really got into racing. My first race was on an old IT465 I used to ride around the farm and the hills. I prettied it up for the races and put the 465 on the plates, and then I just kept it on my 250's ever since.

I grew up racing jet skis and there were only a couple guys in my hometown that raced. Both of them had three-digit numbers starting with 7 which was fortunate for me because 7 is my second favorite number (behind number 1). Naturally I went with 717.

Funny enough, 7/17/17 was my 17th anniversary of running 717.

Although this is in 2000, in 1998 the NMA assigned me 481.
Been a few others, like national numbers, AX number, etc... but 481 is my roots. Running it to this day, and even put the NMA (rest in peace) logo on a few of my jerseys for spirit. Seemed relevant to put on the throwback Shift gear I run now.

kept having problems with more than one rider having 11 so one of the women at registration said "why not try 411?"

When I was little, I just used the number my dad gave me, 93R or 933.
Photo

When I got my own bike as an adult, I went with the number I was most familiar with, 82, my high school football number.

I've had 182...

...and now just have 82 on my bike.

Got back into racing after I got married, so went with the wedding date. January 18, 181. Makes it easier to remember the anniversary too.

|

12/8/2017 9:32 PM

My anniversary is June 14th, 2003...So I started running that number after that...614...run it to this day.

Before that I always ran the lowest number I could.

I always liked the look of the number 10 on my bike and Brayton is my favorite rider so it’ll always be ten for me

325 is my wedding anniversary. I never forget the date that way and my wife always smiles when I order new graphics. It's a win win.

|

12/9/2017 7:48 AM

Proposed to my wife in 1982 and we picked September 24 of the next year for the date.
I had just bought a new bike and I wanted to use the month and day for my number but didn't want my number to start with a 9, so I went with 249 for the 24th of September.
Still with her to this day and still run the number!

My first NMA race back in 86 they assigned numbers and I got 433. And the track, Swan Mx in Tyler Tx is on county road 433. And the first three numbers of my ssn is 433.
So I figured that was enough things in common to keep it!!

Same here, 448 is the last 4 of my AMA number and they told me to use that. I used that for years until I started vintage racing they issued me 84c which I use now.

I started my speedway career in 1981. I was told I needed to call this number to get a number assigned to me. So I called and told the woman (Jean Fink) I need a number. She told me the lowest number available is number 166. So for the next 24 years, I ran 166. I took 1981 off from motocross but when I got back into in 1982 I began running 166 on my MX bike too.Photo

My dad and I share a birthday too.

149 was a random number assigned to me as a junior. Raced with that until I earned a single digit. The off-season before I started running that single digit, my "uncle" (who was actually my uncle's best friend, and a very influential man in my life) passed suddenly. So I ran his number, 644.

On my Yz250 project I plan on getting the number 280 when I get my decals.

Im orginally from Daly City, Ca. and always wanted to run the number 650 for my area code but it always reminded me of a DR650, or generally a 650cc machine. ( I own a DR350).

280 is the freeway thats runs through Daly City and the San Francisco Bay Area penninsula. Basically my old stomping grounds growing up.

Fun Fact: Its also featured on the Apple iPhone maps icon.

When I started I was 17 because it was easy to make from tape. I used 32 for a while after that, but seemed like I had to slash my number a lot. So then I used part of both and became 317.
