Question is in the title, I have a few taking up space in the garage and was wondering do I just toss em in the dumpster or try to build a dog house out of them.. I dunno.

Generally any town dump will take em and throw em in their scrap metal bin happily

The best use for a VP 5 gallon can: keep one to put used oil in. Most places that accept used oil for recycling have a 5 gallon limit, per visit. So I convince my buddies to do the same, and say “hey, take one of these cans for your old oil!” Ha…

I recycle them in the regular recycling. My local suspension guy told me to do that.

I will start cutting out the tops to make little shop trash or storage bins out of them though. No idea how much work it is to get the top cut out though!

I buy mine from a distributor and they still wont take them back. Figure its gotta add up, the cost of manufacturing these pails. Never know if recycling would be even more expensive though.

Fill them with water and leave them in the back of your truck... someone will eventually come along and steal them.

Transit, and I dont think theres an easy way to recycle the plastic tops / reuse the things.

They used to give you a deposit back when you returned the 55 gallon drums, becaues they would just spray them with a fresh coat of paint and re use, but its just a rubber seal under the thread in caps. Probably a PIA to replace those plastic spouts on a can thats already made.

I use mine 2-3x to refill with Sunoco 110 leaded no corn for practice days. . Seals octane far better than any plastic garbage. gas can. Then I drive over them with truck and put in recycling bin.

Check with your local landfill. I fill mine with oil and leave them on site, they recycle both.
