It has been years since I lined up for a race, and even then it was a big event. (The most recent ones were the TWMX Invitational, Mammoth, and a bunch of Dealer Series events at Glen Helen.) I want to race a regular-old, single-day, local MX race where I don't have to join a club for $100, pay a $50 entry fee, and then a $30 gate fee if I actually want to bring my bike to the event.
Most importantly of all, My daughter wants to race for her first time. She's on an 85. She has no qualms about racing with the boys, but I don't want to drop her into Supermini. An 85cc beginner class would be awesome.

What's the hot ticket these days?

I would say REM series at Glen Helen or the Swapmoto series are probably your best bet.

I would suggest either SwapMoto as they have a bigger turnout for the youngin's

I enjoy racing with the vet clubs and REM but their mini turnout is on the small side.

For example OTHG or OTMX is about $40/year membership. Can not remember if SWAP charges a membership?

And OTMX/OTHG/SWAP are all $10 gate entry on race days.

REM would welcome you and your daughter like family. Tell em it's her 1st race and I would not put it beyond Myra to do something special for her at the riders meeting!

Was just thinking about this. Unless you’re a vet, are there any other series besides Swap and REM? Regardless, I’ve raced both and they are run very well. I don’t think I’ve ever had to hang around the track after 2:30

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to let her get some practice during the Christmas break and then we'll see which of those organizations are racing in January.

Swap and REM could be a bit intimidating for your girls first race. OTHMX would be your best bet.

Have you taken her to the new Pala kids track yet? They just re-did it and it is a fantastic track with bowl turns and tables.

I take my son and daughter there every Sunday and I can't get them off the track...

You should check out Fire/Police mx. They have a civilian class if you are not Fire, LE or military. Kids get to race for free. Its really laid back. Everyone is really cool. I believe there next race is at Lake Elsinore in February.

Neither did I. I'm just making a joke that she probably won't be intimidated. She's a born racer.
She won't win Supermini, but I think she has a shot in 85cc beginner or 14-16. We'll see.

Will do! I'm on a YZ250 #991. My kids ride a TT-R and an RM85.

I took her to Glen Helen today for a shakedown. Like usual, she was faster than lots of adults on the vet track. Cool I think we're about ready.

REM is at GH next Saturday, Jan 2 for there 2021 opener for the year. Practice is around 830am and your typically out by 200pm. GH gates open 7am. Fun days and the moto's are 15 min long. REM signups are on line. It's pretty simple and quick to register + Frank and Myra run a really good program. https://remsatmx.com

Be sure you have a transponder and it is pre-entry only due to covid.

SRA is always fun. And a 45 minute race is good seat time.

I can’t speak to a specific series, but don’t EVER pass the opportunity for a race on the main of Cahullia Creek or Glen Helen, especially Glen Helen.

That’s all I have to say on the matter.

I was there yesterday too. Were you parked next to Keefer? GH is so gnarly on practice days. I swear it’s smoother at the Swap races

Both are great, benefit of swapmoto is they have classes on the vet track to ease into racing a bit

Just an update: I entered her in the 85cc Beginner class for this Saturday at the Glen Helen Swapmoto event. She and I both think it would be unfair to put her in the "Starter" class. I don't think she'll win, but heck, she could. We'll see.

I'm going to let her race a round or two before I jump in as well.

The answer is obvious. The problem is you will want to make it regular weekly event after 1 race at REM

Swap Moto will have the most riders in her class, but just for your info, the majority of the riders in swap moto are riding at least 1 class below their skill level. I know this because I ride with every single club in so cal, but that being said, I think you put here in the right class.

There are only a couple riders in the class she would be in with othg and otmx, so that isn't much fun, plus, swap moto almost always runs the vet track for the lower skilled riders and the main for the higher skilled ones, but if she has no problems riding the main track at elsinore, she won't have any problems on any other main tracks, which is what otmx and othg run except at cahuilla.

calvmx.com is a vintage bike club but they also have a modern bike class she could ride in, and they race on both tracks at glen helen and will be having 3 races on the vet track at elsinore this year, and every person in that club is very nice.

Also, always, always, always, take the inside line if it's not muddy, lol.
