When your nitro CBR1000 blows up...

Crazy run from Scott Wentz Jr. at Poags Hole, NY this year. He was riding John Koester's CBR1000 on 100% nitro (300-350HP) when the rod blew through the motor. Luckily no one got hurt!

Jumps on a hill climb? Looks crazy/stupid/rediculous. That bike sounds insane though

Serious question: Why do you need so much horsepower? Isn't it all about traction? Isn't, like, a 450 ample in terms of being able to pull itself up a vertical face?

Educate me.

a 450 might get you up the cliff with 60 odd HP, but a 350 HP bike gets you up the cliff a hell of a lot faster

Seriously, you have to have a screw loose to get on one of those things. Hey whatever floats your boat. Mad respect to those that turn that thing to the stop.

This was an offshoot of the OP's video. Same event right? Those doubles runs were a lot of fun to watch.

I just spent the last 30-40min watching related hillclimb vids after seeing the 1st one posted, those side by side runs are intense! Entertaining to watch for sure.

Yeah! That was Naymbrand Media's edit from the event. The side by side 450's are definitely a great show, and when the top riders are on 65-70 HP 450's with paddles, it gets pretty intense.

But as far as the jumps go, it is the progression of where the sport is going. Long and steep hills are harder to come by, promoters have been building doubles, tables, and rhythm sections before the main part of the hill to add technicality for the more advanced riders and modern equipment. It's also more exciting for media and the crowd! Nobody can deny that.

It's like comparing a stock 250F and a built 450 in the sand dunes with a paddle.. it's night and day. The way these races are setup are like drag races, usually 10-25 seconds long, so every second counts. Big horsepower, good suspension, and agile machines usually come up on top when a really good rider is matched with it.

a car guy explained Understeer , Oversteer , Horsepower, and torque to me a while back, Understeer is where you see the wall coming, oversteer is where you wait for it coming, horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you move it..

I know the term “LMAO” gets over-used, but holy crap it applies here...

Damn, that could've been so much worse, I imagine

Elevated Action - Are there any kind of safety inspections for these "top fuel" / radically modified bikes??

After riding a 1000 street bike, a 450 has no power. They just arent what people say they are because comparing a 1000ml street bike to a 450ml dirt bike is apples to apples.

I'm good, I like to ride motorcycles that have less potential of permanently damaging me.

They check for petcocks (fuel flow), metal fenders, and kill switch tethers. There also needs to be certain protection for the mechanics sometimes and the hillworkers need to have fire extinguishers nearby.

I spectated poags hole a couple times in the late 1990's, that is a really steep hill, obviously. The doubles runs with the intersecting lines over the big double jump may not be the best idea ever...

Wasn't that Malcom? Either way that hill was nasty and wish we still had the Widowmaker!
