Honest question.. When should riders move from the 250 class to the 450 opens..?
There seems to be a lot more riders now choosing to stay in the 250 class for a longer period of time and even most of there racing career.
I believe there should be a points system where once you accumulate a certain amount of points over a a few seasons, it should be compulsory to go up a class.
Instead of staying in the 250's until in there late 20's, racing young kids. its almost as if there trophy hunting.

Possible going to cause a stir here.. But Interesting to see what people think of people staying in the 250 class for several years.

It's not your local track, no one is sandbagging, it's a pro class and they should stay in as long as it is lucrative. That would be the same as some one saying you have been working in your job for too long so you should go get an EBT card now... I bet you would tell that person to STFU, mind their own business... and that you like the job you are currently doing and making the money you are making.

I think Feld should give the class less coverage and less money. Treat it almost equal to the 450s and riders will make a career of it. Treat it like a support/feeder series (less coverage) and the riders will as well. I want to see the 20 best riders racing against each other. I don't want 12 of the top 20 in one main, 4 in another, and the last four sitting at home.

If they are top five for several years they have probably pointed out. If not, the others have had several years to get better and beat them.

What's the problem?

I use to think 3 years max in the Lites class. Then I started seeing several champions of the Lites class only find mediocrity in the 450 class. Then they wind up on shit equipment after 2-3 years and then they are gone and never to be heard of again.

The way I see it now, the Lites racing is more fun to watch than the big boys. In my opinion, let them stay. If you’re a middleweight fighter, they don’t make you move to heavyweight once you get the belt. Why force Lites riders to the 450’s? Let these guys race what they are best at and make a living.

Just my 2 cents.

The 250 class should either be open to any pro, or limit the class with a rule that says you get up to 30 starts before you must move to the 450 class.
The rules in the past have been very subjective, which is why there’s a guy racing 250s for 13 years and 87 starts.

Making the night show in 450 should pay more than winning 250.

LESS money? If anything Feld should increase the purse in the 450 class and the 250 class. Just increase the 450 purse a bit extra.

You do know that there is already a points bumping system in place to move riders up and has been for many years dont you ? Like anything, people ( riders/teams) will always find a way to circumvent the system!

250 either needs to be a true feeder series, or fully equal to 450. I want it as a feeder series because I want all the top talent racing each other in the same class. Having 60% in one race, 20% in another, and 20% sitting at home is stupid. How do you get all the talent in the same class? Stop giving 250s the same coverage as 450s. Pay a purse to every rider that makes the 450 night show (top40), and pay them all more than the winner of the feeder series. Remove the financial incentive to stay in the feeder class.

How stupid is it to have Plessinger sitting on a couch at home while riders who are 5 seconds off the pace are in the 450 show? Will some talented riders not get a factory ride? Yes, but that is already happening. It happens in every sport. Very talented competitors don't get contracts because there is more talent than available spots. Life is shit, and not everyone gets to do what they want.

Mains and LCQ will matter more, because there is a very real chance that top riders won't make the main. Anderson couldn't take it easy because one slightly off night and he's watching from the sidelines.

I couldn't agree more that the 250 class is more action packed, closer racing and better to watch. it seems they are all willing to let it all hang out each week for the win and theirs more fight in that class.
And i also agree the 250 class should be better set out like the 450's.

but i just feel like you cant spend your whole career in the 250 class winning racers and battling for podiums and expect credit. but like was said.. they move up to the 450's and never herd of again.
but this is my point.. there happy to race young kids and gain credit for wins when they cant race people there own age..

and im not picking on any one here.. im a big fan of all the riders in the 250 class and full respect. but just doesn't seem right

Why make someone move up ever? They do not do it for Motocross and it seems to be no big deal. They are both pro classes so I don't see why forcing someone to move up at a particular age is even necessary.

In 1982, I was 19.
I rode a Honda CR480/RC4XX, CR250 and a KX125. Good times.
FYI, none of them killed me...well, I did separate a shoulder...on the KX!

Davalos has basically raced 250's the majority of his pro career and Trey Canard rode 450's (or was contracted to) about the same length of time but spent much of that time injured. So which one of them 'made' more money during this time frame? To know this might help answer your question from a riders perspective.

so.. IF there was a case where such as Davalos was to dominate for majority of them years or at least be a top 3 each year he has raced the 250 class, what would be the view on that?

When you point out.

OR

When lucrative job offers stop from top tier teams within the 250 class.

I would be a lifer if I didn't point out and better paychecks kept coming from the 250 class. As opposed to marginal 450 equipment or a complete privateer set-up? Stay all day in the 250 class, easy.

Quit being such fanboys

My view would be...we would be watching him on a 450
What rider has done that?
