When did a tabletop start counting as 2 jumps?

The "quad" that James was doing at Oakland was a single, over a table, and landed on the backside of a single. 3 jumps

Now we have this "quad" at the SD track tonight. the takeoff is a table, then over a single and landing on the back of another single. 3 jumps.

So when we have a finish line that is a single over a tabletop that is now a "finish line triple?"

i swear they are making this stuff up so it sounds more dangerous.

Because if you take out the middle it is a double, but "safer"

2/8/2014 4:46 PM

I am going to respectfully disagree with you on this one

i'm dead serious. Ive' been racing for 25 year so I'm not some newb here. I'm honestly trying to figure out how 3 jumps equals a quad? The only thing I can think of is they are counting the table top as 2 jumps. But if you are going to do that they you have to refer to a single over a table as a triple not a double. Which I've never heard anyone do.

I cant buy that reasoning when the table tops are maybe 15 ft across. Now if they were 30 ft. across I could see the comparison.

Count the take off + number of possible places to land and you're question is answered.

i can see that reasoning

Top of Table =1

Backside of table =2

backside of next single =3

+ takeoff = quad

best possible explanation i've heard yet

But for as long as SX has been around there have been finish line jumps that are a single over a tabletop. Iv'e never heard of that jump combo as a triple. I consider that a double.

It wasn't really meant to be anything but a quick post. BUUUUUUUT technically it makes no difference how far the jumps are apart. A quad is a quad if you jump one and land on the fourth one. I remember a local track that had some over sized whoops but not really jumps and we used to say we where quinting into them (5) and triple out

To me it looks like your picture features a couple options, triple triple, quad double, or double quad. But the hot line might be to just plow up the middle, I think Ill take the right side....

You guys have it all wrong. It refers to the gear the rider is in when doing said jump..

2/8/2014 6:28 PM

If its a table to a single I call it a triple but have a hard time calling a single to a table a triple because I have double standards like that.

2/8/2014 8:48 PM

Not certain. But when did the depth of the western division 250sx class suck ballz as bad as it does now?
Check out tonight's heat races... WTF!

2/8/2014 8:49 PM

Ima gonna rent me a moped and see if I can double jump that table top....

2/8/2014 9:13 PM

I asked Sean Hamblin if the his counted as a quad at GPF in 2005. He said it counts as a quad. That's just my two cents

2/8/2014 10:38 PM

They were doing a "true" quad at A3. Happy?

WAIT!!.....You get the same thing when you have just three bumps on the ground!

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I agree with the OP on this.......and don't understand how they call it a quad. The table is like 15' - 18' across.....and they are counting that as two jumps.

You DON'T Add the landing ramps together.......you ADD THE TAKE OFF's! 3 take off's.......= a triple. Doesn't matter if one is bigger than the others. Never has in the 35 yrs I've been doing this sport!

A double is anything bigger than a single. A table tob is technically a double. Case closed for the 10th year in a row.

That was a TRUE quad! 4 take off ramps!.

Imagine if they filled in one of those little gaps...........they would be saying the guys were clearing 5! That is the exact same reasoning as what they are using now....and it makes no sense!

Spode.....read my post right below yours? What would you think if they filled in one of those gaps at A3?

I see your logic there. But in all my years of race observance I think everyone have always reffered to what they were doing tonight as a quad.

Ok just for the heck of it what is the correct term? A "Trable"?

This, if you add the take off and the landing, a single would be a double.

You may be onto something there. Maybe a "Tri-qaud-ripple-jump-thingy" .........that has a nice ring to it.

It NEEDS a name damn it!

OR.....in the case of something like A3.........if you removed the two small jumps in the middle........that's just a double right? Actually that is right.....I don't know why I'm questioning myself.
