I was passed by jason Lawrence on a track back in about 08 when he was full factory still. My thoughts were first Holy fuck whered he come from, then holy shit hes flying, theres a tight 180 coming, he laid it over so low and so fast i started changing my line assuming he was going to lay it down, nope he was gone in the next instant.

Not even the same world as those guys.

Dang I love this sport that I get to be riding with the professionals (if only for that split second).

Add on.. Many moons ago took the family to Mammoth MX and my daughter (8 at the time) was using a pit board for MC during the +30 pro main. He had quite the lead and went out of his way to rubber neck past the pit board area to emphasize that he was reading my daughters info. I'll never forget it. Took her over to his box van after and he thanked her for pit board info and also gave her a signed hat. 100% class act

MC whipped it in my face over a triple at the Day In The Dirt in '03 (maybe '04). it was my crowning moment of "i just don't have what it takes"

in the desert world, Esposito is WAY faster than he appears on paper. eye watering fast. i just don't get it.

Red Bud 1984 was my 1st 500 National and I qualified. Bailey & Glover lapped me 4 times in the 1st Moto and I was having the day of my life!

"So that's what race pace looks like" as they fade away corner by corner. The most recent have been Cunningham, Bisceglia and Wilbur but it's been a few years.

I raced with Bauer and moates at Carlsbad a few years back on Marty's 450. I was hauling ass down the drag strip return, maybe 60mph which to me was flying, 3rd or 4th gear probably and almost to the slide stop. I glanced back in the middle of the asphalt and nobody was in sight. A hundred feet or so later I hear another rider coming up towards the hairpin onto the main strip, blew by me so fast my hair went blowing forward. It was Jeremy, he went by, waved a little then pitched it on the hairpin like Kenny roberts on a TT track...disappeared like a ghost. Moates got a kick out of that.

"I hate ROOST!"...It's the 1st thing I think when someone like ZachO passes me and gives me a face-full...and I'm smiling the whole time.

I ripped a start from Egypt and I was happy about that.

JS7 (Then JS259) split right between me and my friend on the Talladega turn at Glen Helen like we were on PW50's
We immediately pulled off and watched.

I was in the "Wednesday Night Club" at the old Iron Mustangs track in Brighton MI back in the early nineties. Brian Swink was a member also. I rode a CR500 at the time and he was on a 125 still. I thought I was cool because I could keep him behind me for a second going across the start straight and up the big spectator hill. We would get to the twisty top section and it seemed like I threw an anchor out and he hit warp drive simultaneously!

MC and Lamson were freight-training around Perris Raceway once and they caught me at just the right time so that they both got around me before the long start straight. They caught up to another regular Joe toward the end of the straight and McGrath got him but Lammy had to check up. I was practicing a very different line than they were, so I had a clear shot to the inside of the turn. I wasn't about to wait around just to be polite, so I passed Steve Lamson back - marking the one and only time I passed a National Pro on a racetrack.
Don't feel bad for Lamson; he passed me right back in about 100 feet.

My first thought as they are coming up on me? Who is this fucking dickhead and why is he on the vet track!

Then I brace for impact as they go to steal my rut.

Then after they blow past and I realize who it is, I exhale a sigh of relief since I never was in any danger of being tanken out.

Legitimate pro’s are imo the safest people to be on the track with.

Desert racing with a buddy and we were jamming! I mean we both thought that we had our A+ riding game, 1st and 2nd place then all the sudden through the sage brush on the side of the trail... David kamo came fucking flying by us... we both got back to the truck and were in aw with how fast and smooth he was in the bushes off the trail!!w00t w00t w00t

If i'm riding a track, I would probably just think to myself, "I bet he can't squeeze through some trees or know how to hop over logs."

That usually helps my ego. LOL

In 1980/81 I was practicing at a track in CO and Arlo Englund blew by me. The cool thing was I could sort-of replicate what he was doing for a few turns/straights, but then he was gone. It baffled me how someone could go so much faster why I couldn't go faster without having someone show me that its possible.

PJ Larsen in 2003 (my first time riding a motocross track ever - very humbling experience to eat roost from a future pro on an 85). Holy $*** what am I even doing out here???

2008 Brock Tickle - Holy $*** that guy is fast.

2016 Phil Nicoletti - Holy fried clutch plates batman!!!

David is a good guy, I've ridden with him a few times. always fun to watch.

My favorite to date was coming up to a jump face at Pala just as Roczen passed me and scrubbed the SHIT out of it while looking over at me. In my head I was like "slow down Kroc, you're gonna die!"

Man...I miss that place! Let me guess...Swink went waaayyyyy right then waaaayyyy left! Followed him the best I could throughout that pace. Taught me about line selection just by trying to ride with him. Those were the days!

Many moons ago I took an off road riding clinic put on by Alan Lachapelle (then Canadian enduro champ) He stayed the following day to race our local hare scramble. About 1.5 hrs in I was dying in a bunch of root infested up hill mud ruts just barely hanging on with my then strenghless noodle arms.
A.L. comes up behind me and pops out of the ruts alongside, waves and says "great fun eh?" and motors away.I suck sad laughing

ya know, I never post but this topic was interesting.

I went to Ponca in about '83 and watched Emig and Button battle on 80s. I had just raced (got 10th) and remember my jaw agape as it was the first time I had ever seen full factory riders going full bore.

These are the things that the casual fan probably loses when watching our sport. Something as simple as taking a berm seems "simple" until you try to do it and realize how impossibly crazy fast these guys are going. We see it in pictures when you see their throttle grip grazing the ground, but at full speed it's hard to appreciate. When you think you are going fast and you get passed like you are standing still, it's a whole new understanding.

Ezra Lusk jumped into our practice on amateur day at Washougal. I was one of the last guys off the line for practice and as I was going through the whoops I heard this bike just screaming behind me. I thought there's no way the leaders are lapping me already and then Lusk went by.

First thought was, well see if you can keep up, it's mostly just some flat turns for the next little bit.

Second thought was...... where did he go?

Empty a bag of skittles into the toilet and then flush. It's like watching a five second long nascar race.

In the early 2000's Stanton had a practice track open to the public for a few years. The best memory was when he pulled in with his rusty 80's chevy pulling a 3 rail bike trailer with what was then still a pre-production CRF 450 on the back. This this had billet everywhere including the shock body. That particular day Ryno was there on the 450, Wey was there on his new YOT bike, Larocco was there on a Honda I believe and of course 6 time. Watching these guys that close was unreal. Best part was when Jeff said you know if you could turn you would be OK. I had a shot!!

another dumb story: At Howerton's track south of SA that hosted a national one year there was a set of whoops, with a turn, followed by more whoops.

This particular section had made me CRAZY as a kid cause I was slow as molasses and I could never figure out a decent way through them..

So when the National happened, Rick Johnson jumped the entire first set, turned, jumped half the section set and was gone. It was then that I knew that these guys were GODS and I was a kid on a minicycle.

My dad worked as a flagger for that race and I remember him coming back to the pits and basically saying "Son, you will NEVER be a motocross star after I just watched those guys."

LOL

Winter training at Dunkerque, smoked by Arnaud Demesteer. After that, I m going to ride beside the main track, i made a small track to works on my corners and after 5 min a guy with a YZ 250 follow me. We ride together, he pass me, i pass him, it was funny. I stop, he stands next to me, he takes off his helmet, it was Frederic Bolley. I was 15 years old.
