Being a product of the 80's and 90's, i always had a dirt bike and 3 wheeler. Seems like everyone had one or both. Honda has produced a lot of iconic bikes, but to me the baddest bike ever produced was the 250R.
Show picks if you have em.
I had 2 86 ATC 250R's, 86, 88, and 89 TRX 250R's.
These are the only pics i could find.
Also, please note, i bought these bikes in high school. Kids don't have that option these days.

Super cool! I'd love to try ripping around of them. Been forever since I rode a quad, but they're so strange how they bounce you from all angles. I feel like I'm going to just fall off the side like an idiot. Anyway, I'd definitely like to have a 3-wheeler for the 'hood someday.

Haha... Nice. I had a brand new 99 YZ250, a Shitty purple Raptor and a slammed S-10 all at the same time. I thought I was so cool. Cool

Suspension and suspension set up is everything. I had Works (brand name) front and rear shocks. Made all the difference in the world. Rode like a Cadillac!!!!

It's been a while since I was at the local races, but when there was enough for a quad class, there was always at least one dude on an old 250R. They looked to be just as competitive as the LTR's and whatnot.

I remember when the 1986 ATC250R was new and they were common at Pismo. Few quads.

My brother did work on his engine til it was like a top fuel dragster. He routinely beat Banshees up comp. hill.

All foopers now.

Funnest times I ever had riding. But I got hurt a few times.

Yep, 4-stroke is not exactly a 250R. Although, they did have the XR250R

Quad on right has a 310 cylinder. Sold the both of them back in 2007, stock quad went to Arizona and 310 is still owned by a friend. Cooper passed in Sept. 2010.

Maybe it’s my old memory and some nostalgia but the tracks sure seemed to shape up with better racing lines through the day when they would send the quads out for first practice to soak up the mud.

Those old ATC’s were pretty crazy!

I Remember a few gnarly crashes when they started a quad class at the races. They didn’t require a dead man teather and in both cases the twist throttle jammed against the bars and the quad ghost rode itself at speed until it hit something. One hit a wall and the other a truck which had to be towed away. Pretty wild to watch.

Built 250Rs are still somewhat common on the GNCC circuit. I saw at least 10 and one LTR250 at Ironman this year. Still think a nice 250r build is still a solid race bike today.

Oh man...those 3 wheeler 250Rs bring back some painful memories.  Both my brothers bought them when they first came out.

Those things were deadly.... and if you crashed you couldn't get away from them.   God forbid you ever put your foot down out of habit.

I've done that!!! I was telling somebody just about that situation today when you put your foot down and you get sucked up underneath the back wheel

I broke my right leg riding a Kawi trail 250 quad at my Dad's house in El Dorado when I was pretty buzzed up. I swore I saw a rattlesnake in the grass, I instinctively threw my legs up from the pegs. I then hit a bunch of random bumps lost control and got my leg sucked under the quad. It didn't hurt to bad at first, but when I woke up the next day was some of the worst pain I ever felt. I refused to go to the doctor until I showed my boss on Monday. My right leg was twice the size of my left. It was embarrassing.

I dislocated my left knee when I was 14 when it got sucked into the back wheel of my buddy's 200X.

You haven't really lived until you've had your leg sucked into the rear wheel of a 250R with paddle tires.

Shell Reef. The "Bomb Drop" is to the left. The lip wasn't nearly as gnarly back then as it is today. (Early 90's)

The thought of hitting even a semi-big jump, commited, on a quad or three wheeler is pretty scary to me haha 😂

Not my thing, but good to see folks having fun and some retro photos whatever it's on 👍

Wow, y'all are crazy fuckers. In 1998 I stopped at a garage sale in Redmond Oregon. They, by chance, happened to have a 83 ATC 250R 3 wheeler for sale. I ,of course, asked how much, and he said $150. Then, he goes on to tell me that it runs, but not well. I fire it up and it idled fine. I gassed it and it blubbered like crazy. I said "I dunno, sounds rough. I'll give you $75 for it." He, of course, took it. Smiling all the way home, I popped the slide out and noticed that it had an unusual wear mark on it. Digging deeper, I found the locating pin for the slide was pushed out. I tapped it back in, and peened the aluminium back over it to hold it sufficiently in place. Knowing full well how this baby was gonna run, I grabbed my helmet. Sure enough, it lit up and revved out great, and roosted like no garage sale pile has since. Wish I had pics. Smile

I was at Ocotillo when I did my knee, so luckily no paddles.

So rad. I’ve got a shot of me as 3-4 year old riding on the crossbar pad of my dads LT250R. Good times.
