Why do we have one of these stupid threads every year for a rookie rider?

He went 5-9, which is pretty much what anyone could expect, unless of course I missed something. ..

Oh but right, I forgot, he was supposed to go out and WIN MOTOS right away and WHY ISNT HE WINNING WTF IS WRONG WITH HIM, HIS SEASON IS DONE!!

Its his first year in the class, give him a break. Not like hes out there struggling for 25th place

I guess I hoped he would be doing better than his results have showed this year but like others have said, its his first year in the big boy class. I think he will get closer to the front as the weeks click off and hopefully a few podiums or a win by the end of the season. If not, he can build on this year and come out fired up next year. That is my hope anyway.

Well, let's see, he had to go up against Tomac, Mushy, who has stepped up this year, a healthy Grant, a healthy Wilson, Seeley, Ando, and its Coop's first US 450 national. I'd say he did just fine.

I think thats only part of it.

Some guys are just suited to the light weight high revving nature of a 250F. They can ride them fast and aggressive.

Then they get on a 450 and it requires a different kind of riding style, especially the Yamaha.

Hopefully the 2018 YZF450 is more "KTM like" for Coopers sake. I think he's doing fine.

Jesus Christ. Let the man work into it. We saw in SX it took him a while and then he got on the podium and was up front every race until he got injured.

After hearing rumors that he'd been focused on outdoors testing for 6 plus weeks I expected more from him.

For sure. People just expect too much. I'm sure he will figure it out, the guy certainly works at it.

Similar kind of situation to Herlings although Herlings' results where even worse at the first few rounds. Now he has won 3 motos on the bounce.

I actually liked riding the yz450f, but his front end looked so twitchy to me in multiple scenarios like the Yamaha typically does.

He's probably just not very good. He should consider college and new career choice.

Wrong? Nothing.... this is the big boy class where guys who are just as talented are working hard to make top 5's.

All the Vital Webb hype has been just that - hype. I think he'll settle in and figure things out, but he's no world beater. You can look over the pond and see Herling's early struggles in MXGP which he now seems to be sorting out... and I think it's fair to say JH has a higher ceiling than Coop does. Just takes time.

New year, new bike, new team and new competitors. His first year on 250s he didn't set the world on fire either. Give him until next year then maybe revisit this...

He had a decent day. He will figure it out. He will do even better once he moves over to the KTM and gets to be a part of Aldons program. Smile

Nobody brought up being sick. Seen him blowing snot out of his red ass nose while signing autographs. And on a day like yesterday im sure he was struggling. Damn good ride if you ask me.

Its definitely frustrating to watch. There are plenty of top guys who move up and start podiuming right away. The concerning thing to me is, he let guys like Seely (known to pretty much suck outdoors ), Wilson and Grant pass him and went backwards to 9th, when he started in 4th. If he held his place, I wouldn't be as worried. He used to beat Musquin outdoors, so I expect him to be able to at least stay with him now. I can't help nut think he's not gelling with that bike AT ALL.

He finished 7th overall, ahead of Seely, Anderson, Barcia, Bogel, Peick, Craig, Noren.

He had a good day, he'll be battling for podiums.

I know right? It's almost like it's a sport where there are multiple factors at play and not everyone rides at 100% of their capability every single day. A slight setup change, liking the track better, or just waking up on the right side of the bed can make the difference between 7th and a podium. Should probably get a little bigger data set before wildly guessing about what's "wrong".

Would much rather have seen the results he put n yesterday, rather than going too hard, crashing, and being injured. Smart ride for his debut in the big boy pants class.

It's been a long time since Seely has "sucked outdoors".

This seems to presume he has ever been amazing at Hangtown, even in the 250 class.

He did fine.
