Whats an old tire to you?

So I needed to replace my rear tire on my bike since it's worn out. I've already replaced the front with a Pirelli MX32 and like it a lot. For the rear I went with the MX32 Pro and ordered it from Chaparral through Amazon so I could use my points. The tire showed up Friday and it looked a bit on the old side. The manufacture date is the 35th week of 2016! That seem old to you guys? I figured Chaparral would move more tires than that?

That is pretty old. Very surprising that a big company has that old tires left, i would send an email and ask if you could get a newer one!

I may be wrong but maybe Chaparral ships old tires to Amazon? Maybe see if you can contact Pirelli about it.

They just sell through Amazon kinda like some dealers sell through eBay. I have an invoice from Chaparral that was with the shipping label.

I called and asked them what they defined as a new tire, they said 3-5 years old is normal by the time that it sits in a warehouse from the manufacture to them and still considered "new". For reference the tire on my bike is the original from when I bought it in Oct/17 and its date code is the 2nd week of 2017. The front which I've replaced recently is from the 11th week of 2018.

If its been in a warehouse i wouldnt worry about it. If it was out in the sun to dry rot then yea thats one thing.

I don't think it is even called the MX32 Pro anymore. It is the MX 32 mid-hard now if I'm now mistaken. I would run that tire on the rear, but would want a newer front.

I'm sure they had the tire sitting in a temperature controlled environment so I wouldn't worry about it. If it wasn't stored properly then it could be an issue. It takes months sometimes for tires to come over on the slow boat then to the distributor and then to a retailer. It's not unheard of for brand new tire to a retailer to be a year old.

I know, I know. I've been to busy. I haven't had time to get the rear shock and over there yet either.
