To make the 450 so much lighter?
Is it a sh-t ton of Ti?
I keep hearing, reading about how much lighter they got the bike.
I'm just curious.

The Shop
Genuine question.
Pit Row
Plus, there was always ridiculous shit on the bikes that implied “the management knows best”.
Alrighty, here we have a picture of Ferrandis' 2021 Star Racing Yamaha 450 and Plessinger's 2019/20 Factory Yamaha 450. These are the best photos I could find comparing the same bike position of the two teams. So okay onto the meat and potatoes. What is different and where did they save weight?
So comparing the two images I see:
Star using minimalist wiring system ( Look at the engine compartment between the two, significantly fewer wires and rats nest on the Star bike.
Star using Neken clamps vs the stock/factory cast triple clamps.
Star using Factory Nissan calipers which are titanium vs what appears to be stock cast calipers on 19' bike.
Star using a machined linkage vs cast linkage on the 19' bike. (Could be titanium link on Star bike).
Star using FMF exhaust which is overall smaller and shorter than the Pro-Circuit exhaust.
Star using Excel rims vs DID on 19' bike. Probably minimal weight difference between the two.
Star using stock rear brake rotors vs aftermarket Braking rotor on 19. I know the braking rotors from experience are about a mm or two thicker than stock. The stock rear rotors have many drilled holes vs the braking having less.
Star using ReKluse clutch vs GYTR "Factory" system on 19'. Without weighing both systems I would guess the Rekluse is a little bit lighter than the OEM/GYTR setup.
It's all the small things that add up to decrease a good amount of weight.
