To make the 450 so much lighter?
Is it a sh-t ton of Ti?
I keep hearing, reading about how much lighter they got the bike.
I'm just curious.

AP was on PSF1 last year. It’s much more than that

Keeper said the switch from PC(factory Yamaha) to FMF was good for a decent amount of weight along with ti.

It isn’t all that impressive from star racing’s side it’s more so disappointing from factory yamahas side. They have the budget, making a bike lighter isn’t that difficult. Mostly just takes money. So factory Yamaha was just pretty damn inept.

Before the SX season Matthes or one of those guys was talking about how Yamaha had so much data acquisition stuff they saved a few pounds just ripping all that crap off.

From what I remember what was said on Pulp: About 3 lbs from the switch from PC to FMF exhaust, 4 lbs taken out of the wiring harness, and some miscellaneous from the engine. Something to this effect totaling 9 lbs weight reduction from the factory Yamaha setup.

I know a mousse is popular in SX but is it as popular outdoors? Thats a lot of weight/rotational mass where power and torque is important.
Genuine question.

The SSS is great for regular guys who race. The PSF1 allows much more fine tuning. Apparently the riders get the option and simply choose the PSF1

Think the biggest difference now is they listen to the riders and set up accordingly. AP said in a podcast recently they just had the attitude “ there’s the set up, don’t tell us how it’s handling we are not interested”

Who says it's a less fork? I had a set of PSF1 forks on my 2013 KX450F and once ENZO set them up, they worked very well. Plus as you said, production forks. These are not production forks they are using even though the basic design is the same, just better materials and setup.

This!!!

Plus, there was always ridiculous shit on the bikes that implied “the management knows best”.

Alrighty, here we have a picture of Ferrandis' 2021 Star Racing Yamaha 450 and Plessinger's 2019/20 Factory Yamaha 450. These are the best photos I could find comparing the same bike position of the two teams. So okay onto the meat and potatoes. What is different and where did they save weight?
So comparing the two images I see:
Star using minimalist wiring system ( Look at the engine compartment between the two, significantly fewer wires and rats nest on the Star bike.
Star using Neken clamps vs the stock/factory cast triple clamps.
Star using Factory Nissan calipers which are titanium vs what appears to be stock cast calipers on 19' bike.
Star using a machined linkage vs cast linkage on the 19' bike. (Could be titanium link on Star bike).
Star using FMF exhaust which is overall smaller and shorter than the Pro-Circuit exhaust.
Star using Excel rims vs DID on 19' bike. Probably minimal weight difference between the two.
Star using stock rear brake rotors vs aftermarket Braking rotor on 19. I know the braking rotors from experience are about a mm or two thicker than stock. The stock rear rotors have many drilled holes vs the braking having less.
Star using ReKluse clutch vs GYTR "Factory" system on 19'. Without weighing both systems I would guess the Rekluse is a little bit lighter than the OEM/GYTR setup.
It's all the small things that add up to decrease a good amount of weight.
