I'd be shocked if he actually laid up and rode a race conservatively.

If he bought a Toyota Prius and he was driving past me in my little town and,
as he went by, threw a partially- eaten grilled-cheese sandwich at me - that
struck me upside my head and a portion of wet cheese dribbled into my
ear - that wouldn't shock me. But, just after that, if Chad Reed came up behind
me in a nurse's outfit and grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and I heard
a cheesier-than-a-grilled cheese Bon Jovi tune - that would shock me.
To answer your query, it would be a complicated, yet plausible scenario.

I think you're allowed to saw what's on your mind after it's all over. But just know that anything you say can and will be used as motivation by your rival in getting ready for the following season.
As far as racing while not feeling good? I know both of those guys have had races where they had crashes away from raceday and they weren't feeling good. And trying to stay healthy while racing at a top level and traveling every weekend? (Not to mention signing autographs for and shaking hands with a few hundred people.) That's nearly impossible.
I think if he grew his hair down like the nfl players and it showed out his helmet that would shock me and might be a little dangerous also.
If he ate a burger while racing that would shock me and raise his game.
If he dropped his pants and mooned the guy behind him over a triple that would shock me but be funny as shit.
I hope he and Chad hate each other even more this year than last year, and I hope they show it on the podium and in interviews...and I hope RV gets in the mix too...but it wouldn't shock me either way. This sport needs some drama (especially SX...since it's so boring to watch)...and the top dogs hating each other, and calling each other out in the media would keep it interesting.
