I just saw the thread about why did people stop racing and decided to turn the question around. For me it will take having more time and more money. Good news is I am getting closer on both.

What would it take for you?

Rupert X, why the need to put some kind of irrelevant old school pic in several of your posts? I like the stuff you put up as a rule but I feel like it clogs up the thread and topic.

Money. I have my career now thankfully. Had to finish college, pay down student loan debt, buy house, and now getting married. I am starting from scratch but I have never had a stronger itch to start riding again than I do now. It will just take some time to have spare money to go towards getting bike, gear, and tools again.

Money. That’s really it. Money for entries, money for practice days and money for bike maintenance.

If my kids decide that moto is something that they want to do, then I’ll start racing again with them. There is no doubt about that.

For now, I’m more focused on being a good father/husband/family man. I finished a moto this summer and suddenly lost the desire to continuing chasing my moto dreams. It doesn’t make sense to be gone all day on a beautiful day chasing after a plastic trophy when I have a hot wife and two beautiful kids at home that want to do nothing more than just spend time with me.

Some guys suggested buying a camper to take them to the track, But I’m not buying a camper just so that they can go to the track solely to watch me do what I want to do.

If the track had that party vibe it did in the 90’s. Just the amount of people who would show up just to bbq, get drunk, play loud music , and shoot the shit. Man those were fun days. Things are just a little to serious now. Not to mention people need you to think their someone. Still don’t see the need for a f__ing $200k motorhome at a Mx track. Oh well.... times have changed, and so have I.

Certainly not around here. Practice at 8am, first moto at 10am, then the second moto at midnight.

More time. Time to get in shape, time to stay in shape, time to ride, time to race. And a new shoulder.

More ride time and a separate track for the minis to race on. It always seems like the Vets get stuck on the gate waiting for the pw50 class.

Fitness, kicking the drugs and booze, getting my carpal tunnel handled.

Been sober a handful of months now, working out every day and dropping some lbs, so pending how this carpal tunnel thing pans out come springtime, I may just see a few gate drops this season.

Safety is the main deal for me. I keep getting jacked up…….so many variables that can go wrong. Also…..I need more track time.

2 new knees, turn clock back at least 10yrs and lose 30lbs (at least)

For me, its the lack of track time you get on race days that turns me off. I can spend 30$ for an all day open practice, or over 100$ to race a single class with AMA reg, transponder rental, etc and only get 4 laps of practice and 2 races and waste an entire day?

30$- get hours of track time
100$ - get about 1 hour of track time

It would take a shitty mind numbing job with zero career expectations, but still pays ok. A lack of immediate family around to spend time with, and a desire to want to prove myself to anyone in any way ( that nonsense fades with age ).
I feel fortunate that I don’t have any desire to race anything anymore, and I sincerely hope I never do have that desire again.

Agree 100% and only getting maybe 25-30 minutes of ride time all day 100% sucks and keeps me from doing it.

I think more people would race if promoters would do a split program similar to woods racing. Instead have big bike start at 8am and little bikes at noon. It could work IF everything started on time.
