Just got this from my local AMA Club...
This is one of our own...SoCal...very Moto...brother of a very good friend of mine...
Former RDR President Steve Bates Thanksgiving family tradition is to camp at Dumont Dunes and ride the sand. I was fortunate enough to attend one year and was amazed at how many of them gather out there and the priceless family fun they all have. A little sand in your turkey is well worth it!
Steve’s brother Mike crashed hard out there on his dirt bike last Friday. He and his son went out for a short warm-up ride while they were waiting for the rest of the group. They believe he hit a “witches eye” which is a kind of sinkhole in the sand, something common in the dunes and very hard to see. Fortunately there were two ladies that saw him crash and knew CPR or he probably would have died right there. He was flown to Vegas and is still in the hospital. While unknown of the permanence of his condition, he is paralyzed from the neck down, suffered a collapsed lung and is on a ventilator. His heart is beating on its own and other organs are functioning. His family has elected to have surgery done to his spine when he is more stable. He is lucky to be alive--an injury of this magnitude can only be survived by someone like Mike, a strong, healthy man of (only) 44 years in age.
Steve asks that you keep Mike in your thoughts and prayers. Also for his wife and three kids.
Ride safe everyone!
Karl

Thoughts and prayers go out for Mike and to Steve and his whole family.
Ox died on April 29th.
We've lost some really good young-men in Freestyle.
More than our fair share in MX...
Just...rough.
Damn.
The Shop
He's concious now; yet, the spinal effects persist.
Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you...all.
