I’m using the p3. Really like how minimal it is. Fit is great. The ones that come on the factory editions are pretty nice. That was my first choice but couldn’t find one at the time.

Enduro Engineering makes a great aluminum skid plate with a polymer extension that covers the linkage. It's typically for off-road guys but would work great for moto. I have one on my 300 XC and wouldn't ride without it!

For enduro, I chose the acerbis model.

I steer away from alloy / aluminium versions now as they tend to dint easier, crush frame rails and cause a horrible engine noise compared with their plastic competitors.

I have an acerbis and the expensive axp. I’ll say I prefer the acerbis it’s plenty durable, super easy to take on and off, fits great, looks good and was half the price of the axp. The axp is a pain to put on and I don’t love the way it fits.

I choose the KTM hard parts one. Figured OE would fit best. 3 bolts to un-due every oil change. Wish it had some linkage protection, it was spendy. Other then that, I like it.

For MX use I bought the Acerbis plastic that uses the three bolt mounting setup. It also covers the linkage which I like.
I don't know why they make the same one that mounts with brackets. With the bolts just do diligence to make sure they start threading in clean.
For the price the acerbis one seemed right.

I’ve got a dent in my frame behind the P3 Carbon.

Well it depends, if you have a linkage, I highly recommend the AXP. Otherwise go with anything else. If you do some hard care single track, also recommend the AXP.

I have the one that comes standard with the Cairoli Edition, probably fiberglass. Looks strong, but you have to take care of the lower frame tubes as they get scratched and the orange is completely gone in my case.

That’ll happen with or without a skid plate.

I fabricated skid plate myself from 6 mm thick ABS plastic sheet and welded mounting tabs for it to the frame.

You could go with AXP or you could go with the quality version that AXP copied....SXS

Made in the USA.

https://sxslideplate.com/

and they come with billet mounts that last unlike the cheap mounts the AXP comes with.

I’ve been running the ktm power parts aluminum skid plate for 6-7 years now and it’s still going strong. I did have to make the mounting tabs out of steal around the 100 hour mark though, those 14s vibrate something fierce

I have an E-line carbon skid plate on my ktm125 sx. It's built well and protects good enough for moto. My friends all use aceribis with the linkage protection but they seem heavy. I'm a weight weenie with this bike build.

The wife was mad though when she found out I spent $177 on a "black plate looking thing."

Acerbis plastic with linkage coverage... I'm at 60hrs now on it, does well, I take it off every time I clean (one bolt) and oil changes are easy. Only thing is the underside of frame is starting to get scratched/powder coat coming off over time from the dirt sliding between the frame and plate. I would like to try a carbon or lighter one potentially myself just to compare. Otherwise this one works great.

I had the P3 Carbon and sold it. Great for hard enduro but way overkill for moto and the mounting is a joke. Love the ktm Powersports plate. 5 easy to reinstall screws.

I use Acerbis on all my bikes, have for 10 years or so. They now have a built in linkage guard, lightweight and quick install/removalz Price is economical too, can’t beat it IMO.

Does everyone get the wear from the skid plate on the bottom of the frame powder coat finish? Just curious if there is a solution or do people recoat/protect the frame from that abrasion.

Polisport fortress skid plate. It's a quick release, so easy on/ easy off when changing oil and washing the bike. I couldn't stomach spending +$200 for a carbon skid plate. This one can be found for <$80. I have mine in black, but here's a pic in white:

I'd try the 3M safety walk. Have been using it in simmilar purposes. Easy to cut to shape and its durable. The same stuff some teams use as frame griptape.
