I remember in his 2019 interview he talked about having to bonzai downhill sections in order to catch up because the 450s would pull out 2 seconds on uphills. I'm sure that was a frustrating and humbling summer for him, but he rode the piss out of that bike. Favorite factory bike for sure
Yeah he was hauling in 05 for sure. There's actually a few 2005 motos where I think you can argue he was riding better than he did in 06/07. Considering the HP disadvantage, and he was actually faster here or there.

As great as people remember 06/07 outdoors, Ricky had him covered the vast majority of the time. James got a few motos and I think one overall? Sometimes though it wasn't close. James definitely had some crashes which didn't help, particularly 06... but in a sense, after 05 I almost expected more from him.

I still wanna build a new model YZ250, with the 09+ rear end, 06+ forks, 04 frame and 93 graphics. Such a good look!

Also loved the late 80s CR125s with gold rims because my older brother had one when I was younger.

Yeah the 1987 cr125 was my dream bike too. I bought one 11-18-89 on my birthday. It had NSR port job, did a top end every 8-10 hrs, added 3 base gaskets. Only other mods where a DG pipe and a WP shock, broke the stock shock in the whoops. My 1st Mx bike, faster than my later bikes 92 RM, 95ncy YZ, 97 YZ, 98 Rm, 01 Rm, 04 cr. 06 CR 125 was faster finally Smile

"This machine was the brainchild of Terry Good and was inspired by the works Suzukis piloted by Roger DeCoster in the early ’70s. At 167 lb. this just might be the lightest CR125R ever built and no one knows exactly how much it cost. Not even Terry.

"Yep that’s a Mugen top-end and just about every fastener you see is titanium. Those aren’t carbon fiber graphics, the fenders, radiator shrouds, tank, airbox and number plates are actual carbon fiber. This saved another almost 9 pounds but was very, very expensive.

"Not just anyone can build a bike like this. Many of the parts were HRC leftovers. Some parts, like the right-side-up forks weren’t even found on works bikes of the era. 911 MX Shop supplied loads of titanium that would ultimately lose 6.5 pounds compared OEM.

"The pipe was hand-built by Don Emler himself at his Flying Machine Factory. Made with 47 cones out of special 22-gauge steel saving another 1.75 pounds. The four-inch long FMF silencer was loud but saved another half pound.

"The man that inspired the build just happened to be on staff at Dirt Bike Magazine in 1994. Roger DeCoster is to this day still one of a very select group of people to ride this machine."
I remember that bike, I should have the magazine yet. Remember the all aluminum 125 pipes, I had one for a 98 RM 125, super light.

Had I known that the Johnny O bike was up for grabs, I would have fought you for that one...Smile

Was it offered or did you have to resort to arm twisting?

In over 50 years of riding, racing, and owning dirtbikes, I've lusted after many. Most of which i've never owned. Sitting here today reflecting on all those years and motorcycles, trying to answer this threads question I can only come up with one really honest answer. I'd like to have any bike that makes me feel like this one did.

Although I don't really believe the following motorcycle would be "magical", I've always thought the Rickman Triumph Metisse to be the dirt bike I'd most like to have for the occasional warm, sunny laid back moto afternoon. And on display in my living room the rest of the time.

Still I think Joe has the most satisfying story with a works honda from the late 70's. To put his unobtainable, mind blowing at the time, motorcycle into perspective, he has the dirt bike equivalent of a local airport cessna guy having a skunkworks F-117 or SR-71 in his hanger.

Dr Seuss MX? A 400 Super Luxurious Omni-suspensional Whatchama-gear,” or S.L.O.W. for short.

From a dude that seemed to have no fear at all. Crikey. What was it like?
If I remember it right there’s a old Racer X article where Jeff Emig rode Stews KX250sr and gave a review of it and talked about how powerful it was

That took a couple trips, buying another 40 bikes and 25 cases of helmets and gear. Can't arm twist someone with as much money as Tom. I believe he is looking forward to it being on display one day.

The one bike I wanted, I had to have it. A Chad Reed 2004 YZ250 replica. Even though I did not like Chad Reed in his prime, watching him ride this YZ was a thing of beauty. So when I saw someone was selling their replica, I headed on over and picked it up. Not fully exact replica, but close enough for me!

Killer replica, maybe you could get Chad to sign the front number plate.

When I first got into moto, these monsters were still at the top of the food chain, with larger than life heroes Bailey and RJ wringing them out. I remember hearing them at the track, and just being in awe.

I started looking for one to fix up about 7 years ago, finally found this one in 2016. I've had a blast restoring and vintage racing it since then. I was feeling a little down last week because of everything going on in the world, so I went out and started her up. That sound, that vibration. It brought a smile back to my face!

These two bikes are as iconic as anything in MX will ever be.

And of course the Perfect Season CRF

Besides the iconic factory race bikes of reed, tomac, dungey, stew etc TM's have always had a big draw to me! 2 stroke or 4 stroke, they always look so trick. And the small details that they get right are so impressive to me.

Just "one?" too tough

1979 Suzuki RM250 is art to me
Love the 1980 CR250R

If I had to pick one it would be the 1989 CR500R
Close but I think the 1980 RM 250 is a close second to Howertons 1979 RH250.
