I figured we could just get a jump start to this thread and explain it’s an oil cooler for the 800th time.

Thank you!

Was wondering, can you explain what this part is on the side of a new Suzuki?

That’s one of those hand crank starters, super reliable compared to these new bikes with batteries and starters. Next thing you know they will be putting injection on two strokes.

Its his Sony Walkman for confidence inspiring speeches while he's racing. Only uses it outdoors unfortunately.

I believe the technical term is saddle bags, for longer rides (like 30 minute motos).

It’s that thing that’s been starting motorcycles without fail for 100+ years.

What does the method of starting have to do with if the bike is hot or not. My 4 strokes have been starting hot just fine since ‘05. Found the dude that doesn’t know how to tune and start a bike.

Somebody should make a gif of that LCQ race with the 3 Suzuki riders all kicking the motor over in the same corner for like 15 seconds

That’s a boot hanger. After you hose your bike and boots off you hang them upside down from those hangers to dry.

Wondering why they only put one of them on the bike...

If your 4 stroke is hard to start when hot, its probably broken

Not bad fellas. I chuckled a few times in this thread whilst I listen to our client raise issues on a conference call. Well Done Bros!

Apparently it’s pretty important according to you. I just laugh at the kick start haters. Probably a bunch of guys that don’t even race always whining about the Suzuki.

Kick through three times, release the lever, find TDC, attempt...

First thing to do is curse while you find neutral. Then kick it through a few times with the release engaged but not the hot start, find tdc and go just beyond it, engage hot and compression levers, pray to reverse the curse and engage the magic, kick like a mule. Super simple!

Some of you guys have never raced a YZ400/426 and stalled that bitch or wrecked...even if you did the perfect drill, it may laugh at you :-)

Do it wrong in the heat of battle and your race was over. You usually got lapped.

A friend of my cousin took his new 426 to the track with us and after about an hour of trying to start it he just put it back in the trailer. The 2 strokes all ran great that day Tongue

Or a 70's HD. Or anything with points that have not been adjusted/cleaned recently. :-)

I got a Rekluse Auto-Clutch for my new RMZ. Haven't had to start my bike other than at the line. I have KTM friends that still have trouble starting their hot bikes after a tip over. Mine never stalls in the first place.

That’s about the time (2005) that the manufacturers figured out better ways to richen the mixture and release compression during the start cycle. Hot four strokes like a lean mixture in the idle circuit to start, and cold four strokes like a rich mixture. This is / was a challenge for carb bikes, but EFI has made that mostly go away.

Good for you that you never got stuck kicking your bike 5000x while people are lapping you.

Who buys the type of bike that doesn't start? My lawnmower, generator, etc all start fine hot. And have a pull cord.
