If rider's are getting hurt because they can't clear the "grand canyon" why not just let them land to flat more often? We saw it in Houston and liked it. Those that can go 100ft let it rip, those that can't don't. No consequences either way.

Without multiples to slow them down over a long section, everyone would scrub the shit out of the jump, or even roll it, and start getting power down. Being in the air is a losing racing proposition, unless it is saving you from an even slower line.
Too many jumps, (and especially double/triples) creates worse racing IMO.
Multiple jumps do bring timing into the equation, thus separating riders.
