I don't have a comment on your above post. But just wanted to say thanks for posting. I learned a lot reading through this thread.

I used Helicoil for the thread circled. I worked perfectly despite holes were not deep.
It should be OK for your application.

If you have a local ACE Hardware store it's likely they have the helicoil set. ACE is the place.
Also, be aware that if the book gives a torque spec for a "dry thread", if you have a lubricant
like the oil in there you could actually be over tightening the bolt and stripping the threads.
And being an oil drain hole, how could you not have a lubricant in the hole?
Hopefully the book accounts for that.

Heli coil should work; used it on a stripped center case drain plug in a CR and it was fine. Wasn't as small a bolt though, check to make sure there aren't different pitches available for that size and be sure you get the same pitch as your bolt.

I used a bit of grease on the tap to catch metal shavings.

It’s not on the case. Just the cover.

This repair might be on the cover, but I did use JB on a case back in the day. 1983 YZ250. Cracked case and a bit of JB held strong for 2 more years I had the bike. Sold it that way
