They were right to round off the first jump.

So Ricky said because they felt 250s couldn't do it? So, the 250s shouldn't be able to do everything the 450s do (we know that's not the case anymore, but still...)

Not quite. That double was going to end up being really dangerous. The potential for a rider not doing the double to get landed on was very high.

There were some really close calls on the opening lap of the 250 heats at the triple out of a slow corner with some guys not doing it and others not.

They took it out to prevent injury. And then Austin Forkner ended his race on it by over jumping the single.

He also dabbed his left leg pretty damn hard in the turn going into that section.

The wind to me was the bigger issue. I was waiting for practice to start when right before the first session they rounded off the lip. RC was standing there on the track when they did that so maybe he did mention it but either way they made the right call I think. That jump was set up to be a floater and it was already technical enough without the chance to blown off to the side of the landing. The wind in the morning was that bad

That was Totally dumb imo , i would've rather they Took it out completely and leave it flat.
Or Make the first one bigger, or shape it so its possible, we all know its possible because it was done earlier in the year.
And they were doing it in the RAIN!
Go watch A1
Cooper Webb did it every lap

Maybe you forget but Fokners ACL was blown out two weeks ago. A good knee would easily have absorbed that.

Having said that, it was a good attempt from Fokner and it sure would have been an interesting race had he keep it smooth. Davalos was getting ready to let him through.

The double at A1 basically had a straight run up to it, and a run out before the next corner. The double in NJ was a 180 into a 90 with no room for error.

It was super windy during qualifying so they killed it.

Agreed. Worst section of the year. They should have made it easier or they should have taken it out completely.

That double worked in atlanta 2014.

I was in atlanta in '14 sitting beside the finish line and I don't think the distance the between the gap was the same. The atlanta double was closer together because the majority of the 250's where making it w/o issue and the triple afterwards. If they were trying to replicate ATL'14 they were off on the scaling IMO.

Got my 15 min of fame in '92, ripped the holeshot in the first 125 moto and led until about the 3rd sand whoop when LaRocco went by about a gear higher. Technically about 18-20 seconds of fame...

I was at Atlanta that year too and I felt that double was bigger than this past weekend. Every top 250 rider cleared it no problem that race. I do not understand why they rolled the face down and even more confused as to why they didn't just take it out. That's very uncharacteristic of the track crew to just leave it there. The 450s were trying so hard not to go face first into the landing..

They took it out to prevent injury. And then Austin Forkner ended his race on it by over jumping the single.
The top guys were jumping into the slope of the next single (backside of the landing) compressing their suspension to better scrub the single and getting more speed setting up for the corner. Forkner should have known not to jump as far as he did.

I read someone’s post in the race day thread that said he went for the double no one else is doing and cased it. That guy clearly doesn’t ride dirt bikes ?‍♂️

It wasn't a big double it was two very small tabletops. Or a quad depending on vital approval.
