He looked reaaaally good until then. You can always tell by his bird dog jump style when he’s feeling it.

Hard to replicate being chased down by the fastest men on earth. Im sure he's been putting in the laps, but running up front is a different feeling

I thought maybe he had a bike issue but arm pump explains it.

I thought most guys on the podium were breathing differently or more than I've noticed at regular elevation races. Perhaps that was part of him fading. That is for sure not a characteristic Baggett has ever shown.

It was pretty hot, and windy yesterday out here combined with the altitude should sum it up.

I'm not surprised at any of the top guys having arm pump issues after being down for so long, and having a bare minimum of time to prepare for that level of comp. Add to that, having the Tomac train behind you...

Am I the only one to remember Baggett fades almost every time he gets a great start?

Eli turned it on at Lap 8...his 1st 43 second lap.
It was Blake's last 43.
Eli was loosening up and coming into his own just as Blake was starting to tighten up.

If Blake had been able to make more of those 1st 4-7 laps of being out front on his own...?
Well, we'll see when and if that happens, it'll be one of those Start to Finish wins.

When Eli made those passes, like when he made his move on Webb, he was ON IT and made immediate distance on him. If Eli keeps that up AND manages to get his starts back...? Well, I wouldn't want to be his competition in that case.

Ando got on it; but, a little too late. He even managed t get some good laps in while fighting for a position; but, he didn't get in the fight in those early laps like he needs to.

Kenny looked his usual "smoother than organic butter" self...and he, also, didin't go after it hard enough when it was time to get Eli. On the other-hand, he was putting in Smoking Fast Laps late in the race...but, there was that late race bobble & he appeared to regroup and just settle into 3rd at that point.

After 85 days off for reasons like we've never seen before, we had our 1st race and it seemed suprisingly "business as usual" to me. Guys like Barcia seemed off a bit & I think that'll change with time.

We'll see.

Tomac has the ability to make everyone look slow. Bagget probably pumped up.

Frustrating. He will get there but that is not what he expects from himself for sure.

Y'all do realize he lives at like 300', right?

SLC is 6000'

Altitude sickness or at least "feeling it" isn't immediate, take a day or two.
Not like you walk off a plane in Denver and puke.
It takes time for the effects to hit you

Because of the testing, everyone had to fly in on like Wednesday/Thursday

Symptoms usually begin within 12 to 24 hours of arriving at a high altitude. Symptoms lessen within a day or two as the person gets used to the altitude. Symptoms of moderate altitude sickness are more intense and are not relieved by over-the-counter medicines.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15111-altitude-sickness

Different people will feel different effects at different times, some not at all, even if coming from a place like Florida
How long it takes to acclimate will also vary from person to person

The stadium they raced at yesterday is 4600 feet. I know Ralph made it sound like the race was at base camp for Mt. Everest, but it wasn’t.

Yeah good grief. 100% with you on this. I live in San Diego (mountains) at 4,300' and don't think twice about the elevation, either breathing or bike performance.

Cahuilla Creek, a track pros are always out here riding at, is at 4,000'.

Bit overblown IMO.

He is on a new hair regrowth steroid that is not wada approved. Doesn't want to draw any unnecessary attention until his locks are flowing.

...I dunno, personally I think Blake should just be different and rock the Skullet, I don't know if there any chance of "flowing locks" in his future...

Not quite sure you understood what Dave was saying. It's not the 4600 feet of elevation. Anyone can go up to that elevation and be fine for a day, but it becomes more of a problem at the 48-72 hour mark.

I can go up to our place in Arrowhead and and be fine at 6000' for the first day, but after that I want to die for a week until I acclimate (without taking Acetazolamide).

Some people are better at acclimating than others. I'm sure the combo of that and Eli death rev'ing the shit out of that 450 behind him caused the fade we saw.

He probably got nervous leading in front of all those fans in the stadium.
