I found an RM125 and it’s a 2008 bike. Anyone know what’s common to fail on them and stuff like that. I figure I could get it down to at least 2500 and it’s a thousand cheaper than a really mint 2011 YZ125 I’m looking at. The YZ is a better bike but the price is much more demanding plus the RMs were known to be quite good bikes.

I would rather the YZ but if I get an RM I’d be out on the track much quicker than on that YZ. RM125s seem to have decent part availability. It’s also in good condition but the guy put 250 graphics on a 125 which is quite funny. This could be a pretty good bike and if I can get a good deal it’s definitely something to consider. But as far as people who rode them? What do you think?

I know I make a lot of threads like this but I look around forums before doing so and don’t find a definite answer. The more knowledge I can get the better.

Perfectly good mate.

At your skill level and budget restrictions, just get hold of whatever looks tidy enough and seems to run as it should.

Get out riding, have fun, learn to fix things or change things as you go, not much on a two stroke motocross bike is beyond fixing at home with basic tools and everything you want or need is still available.

Nice one for doing your research but don't worry too much dude.

I’m an overthinker man haha. Yeah, I’ll talk to this guy and if he drops it down I’ll buy it next month. I just wanna ride, bro.

Same, worry all day 😂 Looks a solid chocie though, the later Suzukis were sweet, and prices are crazy at the moment, so if it gets you riding and having fun then no shame at all in going yellow... I've been looking at RMs lately myself.

Had a look at how much money I have and I’m not far off any way so I’ll contact this guy and see what’s up. I’d much rather own the YZ for parts reasons but the RM is gonna be great.

Rm’s are awesome, just if you do get it run a Ktm plug, the older style plugs have a habit of vibrating the electrode off and eating the piston. Apart from that, as long as the gearbox is in good shape they ride great. I’ve had quite a few other bikes over the years and my rm is still my favourite thing to ride.

But yeah, don’t worry too much about it, it’s easy to talk yourself out of anything. If it runs and rides ok you’ll learn along the way about maintaining it and repairing things that break.

Doesn’t happen if you run the OEM Suzuki plug…only if you use a regular plug.

Yeah, the price is why I run a Ktm plug, £6 versus around £30. Just something to note that a lot of people don’t think about 👍🏼

Suzuki OEM parts, if available are VERY expensive compared to the other colors.

RM transmission problems were pretty common. Maybe some of these issues were addressed by 08, I would make sure that thing shifts and stays in gear though.

They actually came down quite a bit in recent years.

I mean, they’re available. Actually, 98% of the parts probably are. There’s people still able to rebuild bikes from the 1980s.

I can pay the premium, it’s not a big problem. I could honestly save up for a different bike but dying to ride and can’t wait anymore.

Heard about that. Was warned by people about it but it’s not usually transmission mainly the clutch etc that’s weak on them. In all fairness anytime you buy a bike you need to check on how it shifts no matter how ‘reliable’ it may be.
