Sexton enters the final race with a 5 point lead!

I hope that this decision becomes a non factor.

Go for a 5 minute max pace run in 108 degrees and you tell us.

It's the 5 minutes at the end of the race so that will help prevent fatigue as opposed to getting rid of 5 minutes in the beginning of the race I suppose...

If 5 minute shorter motos is safer, then by that same logic, shorten it ten minutes. That would be safer then five minutes.

Just keep going….

Make it a one lap race. That’s as safe as you can get.

Scratch that. Just cancel the race. It’s too hot. Crown the champion now.

Do it for the children….

The reason they don't shorten it 10 minutes (or down to lap) is due to something called marginal analysis. The first 5 minute chunk you shorten has a bigger safety impact than then next 5 minute chunk. Motocross is inherently a dangerous sport, but just because it's dangerous doesn't mean the promoters won't take steps to reduce the danger, nor does it mean they will take steps to eliminate the danger altogether.

Marginal analysis is understood better if you think of how the first donut you eat is great and the second donut you eat is also good but not quite as good. Diminishing marginal returns is the reasoning there.

Even a little bit more or "now or never, give it all you've got"?

About 1.2% less racing in the greatest 450 season ever.

Sexton went full out in moto 1 at WW a few years back. He DNF'd moto 2 and sat out the next race. It's safe to say he doesn't do well in the heat.

If Eli or Chase either crash early or get a bad start the 5 minutes could make a huge difference!

Not going to change much. If anything they will push even harder knowing it’s 2 laps shorter. Relax guys. We don’t have to find something to complain about all the time

Wasn't it a last lap crash or stall, and he spent a long time kicking his bike?

It may be for the fans, going to be a hot one and lots of wives and girlfriends will be glad to leave maybe an hour earlier. My wife can barely wait for me to get my trophy so we can go, lost a good trophy that way.

Correct. They know ahead of time and have adjusted their race strategies accordingly. Get a good start and race til the checkers fall. Positions and titles assigned accordingly. Forget all the what if’s, It’s called racing. This one changed a little due to Mother Nature, but a race is still going to happen, checkers will fall and a champion will be crowned. I’ll be there and if I get too hot I’ll go watch in the car with the a/c on for a bit.

None, zero, zip, nada, nothing....

If they were truly concerned, the races would start at 7:00 am. TV schedule...lol. It's not like it's NASCAR or NFL....we're a tiny little joke of a sport in the worlds eyes.

He was wrecked for weeks after that. 1-DNF at WW then 13-DNS at Southwick the next weekend. Then 27-7 Spring Creek almost a month later.

Tomac had a similar experience in Texas early in his 250 days. We know Tomac has sorted that out and I guess we'll find out if Sexton has.

My theory is that the rider's intensity levels are directly proportional to race length (time). Obviously there are other variables to consider but none of those were purposely altered. Also, though the start is still important, they didn't reduce the time so much that a poor start will matter much more.

Not gonna happen, they are spacing out times between motos too

I would support it if the five minutes was taken off the beginning of the race……..

5 minutes wont do shit. If they were smart they’d be running motos at 9AM, not at 1PM.

No one ever got heat exhaustion in the first five minutes of a race.

That’s why they’re taking 5 mins off the end. Not the start
