When you "scrub" the intent is, it allows you to go faster.
Everything flying through the air travels in a shape called a parabola. It's just where in the parabola you are that changes. By absorbing the upward momentum, to need
more speed to travel the same horizontal distance.
More speed keeps you in the upper part of the parabola.
So you have 2 things in your favor, you're going faster and traveling less distance. Long story short, a well executed scrub allows you to blow past your competitor that isn't scrubbing.

I see what you mean Sandusky, but is that really what's happening? Or are they simply trying not to jump too far down a hill, like in the Broc Glover video above? In that case, he's scrubbing to avoid jumping to the bottom of the hill. The fact that his technique prevents him from overjumping to the bottom is not because he's scrubbing speed, it's because he's lowering his trajectory so he can maintain speed.

Think of it this way. McGrath was the first to get the bike sideways in the mainstream platform. Without that, we don’t have the scrub IMO.

One is show and the other go.
Why do people insist on showing they don't understand a question?

The post was about what changed "Moto" the most, not what makes you faster.

I specifically used the term moto because it is a catch all for everything to do with dirt bikes not just racing. What changed moto more, something that created an entire new form of the sport and drew countless eyeballs to the sport or something that saved a second a lap?

Please explain to me why when you're in a race, you want to use a technique that will slow you down,
and let your competitors pass you. Please explain the function, the objective, and the motive.

If one guy carries more speed through a section and scrubs the jump to land in the correct spot vs. the person who doesn’t carry enough speed and doesn’t scrub but lands in the correct spot.

So you're saying someone who slows down on the face of a jump is scrubbing the jump?
So your definition of "scrubbing" is hitting the brakes on the face of the jump?
Or where and how are you saying they are reducing their speed?

To be fair is freestyle considered motocross? More like an offshoot if ya ask me. If your asking what changed motocross more than the scrub. If your saying motorcycle industry then the nac nac.

Well, you're reading a lot more in to my comment than was intended, and it seems like the comment respects the call the question with complete neutrality.

And a reasonable reader can comprehend that "moto" means how racers race. It's on the author to more clear if the intent is the question be that confined. The reader is not at fault for the author's lack of clarity.

A problem with your question is that you are conflating the nac nac with MC's transcendent presence and influence, which is broader and deeper than that one trick. And the nac-nac didn't change the nature of racing like MC's other techniques. MC the superstar was what put more eyeballs on the sport. The nac-nac is just a heel clicker without MC.

Seems like it was more a product of that sub-culture than the creator of it, at least by the vids at the time, but certainly MC elevated that sub culture's profile.

Should the poll include Travis backflipping? Because Travis surely put more eyes on the sport than MC, and certainly more than Stew or RC, if we're just talking what got attention.

There are a lot of us that really wished they had called "freestyle motocross" something else so that when people found out that we raced "motocross" the next question wouldn't have been about what tricks we could do.

So, no, not everybody thinks fmx is "moto" anymore than figure skating is "freestyle hockey"

Now go ahead and scold me because I didn't understand the question, which you apparently posted just so you could talk to people like they are stupid just because you posted a question without much merit.

You can do better.
