That's not what I get out of the look on his face. A lot of riders back in the day had a similar look with the mouth semi open.

Looks like extreme concentration and his breathing technique. Joel probably was never surprised at ANYTHING he did--one of the most naturally talented riders to ever swing a leg over a bike, just like Lechein.

Also probably because you could see it more without any mouth protection Roger D has a lot of pictures that look similar.

There's a cool old photo of Broc Glover I think at Southwick ripping a corner that I always liked. It reminded me of a Got MIlk ad with that stoic look on his face, mouth closed, all business.

Twin pipe 1964 CZ dirtbike. Dam. Real leathers, no suspension, at least 4 neutrals, plugs fouled if off the pipe for more then 20 seconds, crazy headshake.... those guys HAD to love it, cuz they were not there for the high tech or the big checks. Great era of dirt bike racing.
