Nothing physically but mentally and especially when learning the processes of doing them, they have a lot in common.

Rickie Fowler, PGA Tour professional.

33rd ranked golfer in the world.

Sponsored by Puma and Cobra, and I think TLD Wink

Sorry could not resist...

Technique and execution.

Some soccer-playing hard-on at work asked how I could race one weekend, then play golf the next. I didn't waste my time answering his question, but did answer it for myself. I believe the connection to be the concentration level required, technique/form/execution, and the insatiable drive to rail that corner faster or hit the ball farther than the lap/hole before.

When Tiger Woods comes up short on a putt he looks like he is going to cry .

If James Stewart comes up short on a triple he may never walk again .

Hmmm, Fowler was in San Diego for SX, but he will not be playing in the Northern Trust Open in L.A. this weekend? Pretty bummed.. Is he hurt?

My 3 favorite sports to take part in - motocross, snowboarding and golf.

All 3 solo sports that require a lot of technique and muscle memory.

Both are individual sports, I like to race on saturdays and golf on sundays! Golf courses are really tracks they just take 4 hours to complete a lap.

I tried to get it, maybe half a dozen times.
Slower than base ball, you walk your ass off for half a day, tedious
to the point of wanting to just break something.

And yeah, I can drive the ball.

Na, if it's gotta be stick and ball,
gimme a tennis court, and let's blast'em for awhile

That if you are the "Tiger Woods" of either sport and wreck your knee everyone will write you off?

Interesting, lots of interesting replies. I have to admit that in my younger years I didn't have the patients to play golf. Now on the back 9 so to speak (58) I'm finding it enjoyable when playing with friends and family. So for you young adrenalin junkies don't write if off just yet.

You can learn a lot about mental concentration with golf. There's a saying in baseball: "Full mind, empty bat". I think the same goes for any sport. In motocross it's "Full mind poor results". In other words you have to clear the conscious mind and let the sub-conscious do what it's been trained to do.

one of my favourite ads was a SHIFT ad, a picture of a single racer on a wide open perfectly groomed track with the caption "I'LL TAKE UP GOLF WHEN I RETIRE" . Cool

I enjoy both of them!. Most of the guys I play golf with are the same guys I raced against! Golf and moto to me are both mental sports. Sure there are techniques you need to learn to be good at both of them but once you get the fundamentals down the challenge is to focus on your game while keeping tabs on your opponent.
