I just bought a 2012 Honda 250F last weekend. I've only rode it once, but I love the bike. Its very small and light feeling. I know the kawasaki is supposed to have a better motor, but this thing hooks up so good from the smooth motor that it really enhances your corner speed.

I haven't dialed the suspension in yet because the springs need to break in. The bike starts really easily and feels like a Honda. I'd write more, but I won't be able to ride again til this friday. I paid 5899$ plus tax for mine, so whatever you get make sure you get a good deal.

Look for a 2004 YZ250F. Best bike we ever had. Find one, rebuild it , and ride forever.

I've got an 06 CRF250R, and have had absolutely no issues with it...since I put in stainless steel valves and springs about 3 years ago (prior to that I was doing valves once a year).

Although the dual exhaust sucks when I had to put spark arrestors on it for desert racing....cost twice as much-almost.

This is the only 250F I've ever owned, but of the yamaha's and Suzuki's and Kawi's that I've ridden, I like my bike the best...

I bought the 2011 kx250f for my Son this last summer and its just ok..he came off a few years of Honda and we wish we would have spent the money on another honda..The KX is harder to get dialed in..the Honda suspension is way better..He had the 2007 crf250r and it out pulls the new KX and corners much better..

I know I might get flamed for this, but if you are buying new you should look at Husky TC 250. They are the cheapest retail and have some great financing deals and contingency. The engine lacks a little performance, but everything else is up to par. You might even look at their CR 125 2 smoke, it is another $1000 cheaper and comes with a 144 kit for no extra charge.

I have a 2011 TXC 250 and I love it, got a great deal on it used last year and it has been simply amazing.

250F and last a long time in the same sentence lol. If you want a four-stroke that lasts a long time look for an XR400.

Dude, for real, if I wasn't planning on selling this bike at the end of this season, I would totally take you up on that. But I'm not putting any more money into it for aftermarket stuff.

If money isn't a problem, then for all out speed/power, go with the KX250F. For all out reliability (i.e. no valve issues, etc) and decent performance, go with the YZ250F or a KTM250SXF. For a compromise on both, go with the CRF250R or the RMZ250 (although both of these bikes have had their fair share of maintenance issues over the years. The older Honda valves/heads sucked as well as the air boot leaking - have fun rebuilding your head every year if you buy an older Honda 250F. I know this from personal experience). If money is an issue, find the cleanest, least wear and tear bike of the bunch at the lowest price. And I'd recommend getting one bone stock and setting it up for you. Personally, I like the YZs and KTMs best for me (and I've owned all of the various manufacturer's bikes). But that's just me.

get a kawi or a ktm, i think those are the nicest bikes out right now. yamaha has some nice fuel injected ones, and i have a suzuki, but if i could get any bike id get a ktm. only thing is ktms are very high maintenance, like bitchy girls..

I will second the rebuilding the head every year on the older Honda (I consider 06 older). I was doing the exact same thing every year, until I put in the stainless steel valves and spring kit three years ago. Ever since then, the valves haven't moved. It's been great!

I RARELY see any dual pipe Honda's anymore. Of course, I'm a desert racing guy, so that might be an indicator as to why.

I haven't raced moto in 10 years, but the Ogden track was always one of my favorites. It's up there in Peelouts neck of the woods, he's probably got it dialed!

Read the title! It says "250F"!

Man, you two-stroke slappies are really starting to make me hate 2 strokes. I hate that it has to be this way but dang, you are one annoying group of people...

I'd go with the 2012 KX250F.... great bike, great handling, most power of the 250f's. and for me, been the most reliable brand we've ever owned

Hondas are GUTLESS out of the box, they handle well and seem to have a weak valvetrain compared to other bikes. If you are at all serious about racing do not run stainless valves....they destroy any high RPM power(which Hondas lack anyway). If I were you I would look At a kawi, I rode them for 5 years without any issues with valves or any of this stuff that two stroke nut suckers make up about 4 strokes. In reality all the bikes are good, except for the Yamaha that feels like a 1985 xr 250 on the track.

I wouldn't say they "destroy" the high RPM power....I put in a high compression piston when I did the stainless valves in my Honda, and can't really say I noticed much of a difference, honestly.

Damn, I know you're a ways away but where did you find that deal? I'd drop the cash tomorrow if I could find a new 2012 CRF250r for anywhere near $6000................
