West Texas riding/racing???

You'll get REEAALLLY good at flat turns and such lol. Is there a moto scene anywhere there?

One of the best MTB trails in Texas is in Amarillo, Palo Duro Canyon. There is some pretty good single track near Lubbock.

North of Amarillo about 15 miles is the Canadian River ATV park. Sandy river bottom riding. There are remnants of a track in Claude...about 30 miles to the east on Hwy. 287. I saw some people riding it last time I passed it. I doubt there is any prep at that place. www.bowersmx.com I've never ridden this track but have heard that it is a decent track.

Racing in texas is almost dead unless you live in Houston or Dallas. Austin has 2 tracks

If you think Amarillo is the arm pit of Texas. You have never lived in Corpus Christi. Can’t go anywhere without dirty diapers discarded in the parking lots. People have no idea how to drive and will make a U turn anywhere at anytime, no matter the traffic. Half the people don’t have car insurance, 2/3rds don’t have current tags or inspection stickers and the smell of red tide blowing in.......yeah Amarillo is a much better place to live. Amarillo may not be the best place to live in Texas but it is a great place to call home and raise a family.

I just recently spent 2 years in Amarillo for work and another 2 years in lubbock. Amarillo is ok, people and BBQ and a few tracks close along with the Canadian river to go trail ride make it livable. Lubbock on the other hand really sucks monkey balls. I got a new position at work and can't move out of here fast enough.

Just like anywhere else, take the time to get to know a few people/riders in the area. Plenty of off-roading opportunites around, most are private clubs you would need to join. In my opinion, MUCH better than any public riding areas. Vast majority of Texas is privately owned but there is a state run off-road area an hour or so away. There is a GP circuit run by some guys who live in the Amarillo area, they run first class events.
The moto scene, on the other hand is on life support. Elk City, OK is about 90 minutes to the East (Trey Canard home track), open almost every weekend. There are several kick-ass tracks in the area (the prepped dirt around here is unreal, my avatar photo was taken at the Amarillo track) but they only race a few weekends every year. The local track in Lubbock runs night races in the Summer with the best dirt you will ever ride on.

Canadian River is really a nice place to ride. Good family friendly trails or you can ride off the beaten path and make your own trails. Just be careful because weekends are crazy sometimes. People going in 50 different directions and whisky throttle jockeys that run up and down the main road wide open to show people just how good they are!

It wasnt always like that. Rewind the clock to the 50s/60s/70s and it really was the sparkling city by the sea.
