Like all sports, the guys writing the checks are the ones with legitimate wealth, not the athletes themselves and moto is certainly no different. I've been following the sport for a long time but due to the veil of secrecy that seems to surround all facets of this sport, have never heard much about the guys writing the checks. I recently saw an article on RacerX about Alias that mentioned Mike Grondahl was a co-founder of Planet Fitness (current mkt cap of ~$1.7 billion) and it got me wondering who else we have in the sport that is in that league of wealth. Curious to hear if any of you know.

Not on topic... really, and not sure how accurate it is, but celebrity net worth has

TP @ $30 Million
RC @ $25 Million
Chad Reed @ $20 Mil
JS7 @ $18 Mil
RV @ 5 Mil
RD @ 8 Mil

Bonus Jason Lawrence at -$3.50 for the tacos somebody bought him. JK, he's not on there, I checked though.

Mark Kavamme MDK that guy spent a ton of money in the Sport over a short span.

Real nice guy the few times I met him, seemed like when the $ started drying up then He wasn't so cool to some people.

The Sport doesn't attract and hold very many big money people.

I'm sure Lawrence had a million plus at some point thanks to his championship and racing in the heyday of the sport. You can only buy so many taco's though before it's gone. Would be interesting to know what ultimately paid more, RC and his championships or Pastrana and the career he took on with rally racing, nitro circus, x-games fame, etc.

Mike Genova has been funding a team long enough to indicate that he either started with or still has some fairly deep pockets.

I thought that too but I guess it makes sense, RD's a little more marketable and clean cut. I guess the better rider doesn't always get paid more.

And ironically that same bus is still in front of his Grandpa's house. Been parked there for 30 years, never sold it. I happened to drive by his house a couple months ago and was surprised it was still parked in the same place (his grandpa lives off of a major street, I wasn't stalking...).

When he pulled into Ponca in 84 with that bus, it was the talk of the pits. Back then even factory riders just had box trucks, that bus went to another level in coolness. And he was about 12-13 years old then. Crowd around his pits all week was huge.

I was at Ponca in '84, and years after! Kalos' set up was awesome, Greyhound-style bus with 6-8 race bikes parked next to it, all with the number 911 number plates pointed to the crowd! In '86 Kalos raced 125, 250, and 500 pro classes, and had at least 6-8 big bikes parked that year! '86 was a great Ponca national, and I remember Emig and Bradshaw battling on '80's, Stephenson, Craig, and others on big bike intermediate! Matasevich, Kiedrowski, Kalos on big bike pros, and Jeff Stanton raced just the 500 pro class. You had Lusk, and future road racing champion, Collin Edwards, Reynard on the smaller bikes! A lot more big names like Loracco and others too!
