Nice find! I qualified by winning the 80cc AMA title in '80 but I was getting too tall for an 80, and my parents couldn't afford to drive us out there for the race. It would have been my one and only chance to ride Saddleback, because by the time I did get out to California to race, it was gone. But I did get to race in the LA Coliseum and then years later ride Carlsbad the day Honda released the CRF250, then it was soon gone too.

Thanks for posting Bobby M., good times.

That's awesome. Remember seeing Troy Blake ride Wardy's factory KX125 at a Saddleback practice day in 1982.

DC,

I know you're a busy dude but do you still ride anymore? Last time I saw you, you were hustling around at KDub's Party in the Pasture in 2015 flagging the finish line.

I do ride RoflCopter726 but not nearly enough. Two Honda Grms, Ducati Scrambler, CRF250, KTM 200 and whatever isn't spoken for out in the garage. Racing, not enough time to do it seriously enough. My mind knows what to do but my body no longer bounces off the ground like it used to...

BobbyM, I would love to have that program! Thank you.

I remember that day at Carlsbad, late 2003 I think.

I happened to be there and got to see Marty Moates spin a few laps on the new Honda that day, I guess someone asked him to come ride as No Fear was just across the street.. Carlsbad closed forever almost exactly one year later the next summer.

I was lucky enough to get one of the first 04 250f production models after that, probably my favorite dirt bike of all time, even now.

Heres an idea............do a story on it. Those old school stories are always a treat to read about.

Hey (1911) nice post about Art DeHoff, Erie Colorado. I saw his pic in bobby M,s post and thought about me and our Colorado life brother S.Smith (TX) shredding the NAR at his practice track on a coal seam track in Erie, after work from time to time. Art would come smoking across the field from his house to jump into our dice on his YZ80 as soon as he knew that anyone was on the pipe on his track and not give an inch! Nice Post

Eric was indeed very fast.
I have lots of stories/memories about him...
Seen him holeshot nationals on a stock 125 back in the day and get top 10's.
Seen him out at PIR on press day before the Washougal national back in 1980 or 81ish while on a YZ80 blow by top national ranked pros that were on 500' & 125's - some were in disbelief.
He was very fast on the old PIR track and had a replica of it in his backyard.
There were times I seen him win 125 expert moto's back in the day... he was so young & short he couldn't even touch the ground on a 125 - he used to use a milk crate to lean on off the start.
Seen him many of times in the 80 expert class let the whole class take off and get to the first turn then take off and chase them all down and win the moto.
I think he won Ponca 1 year too.
He finally retired after setting the fastest qualifying time at a Mickey T. Offroad Ultracross event at the Seattle Kingdome I believe in 1989. During the main about 10 seconds in he endowed bad off a jump (rebound kicked him hard) and blew out his knee.
I never seen him race a pro-event again after that.

This was him & I back when he rode for LOP in 1980.

I wonder how many of the Aussies here remember Phil Robinson and Ricky Murphy?

Phil ended up riding for the Toshiba Yamaha Team about the same time mid 80's as Craig Dack. Phil would have been on a 125 though. That team used to run Rat clothing.

I remember Ricky being pretty quick at the Mini Nationals in Perth in 81

I saved that dust collector for 37 years before I got a chance to brag about it...BAM! Thanks BobbyM!
